carb leaking

i have just picked up a 85 spree, i got it running but the carb is leaking fuel from a gold tube on the engine side and rear of the intake to the engine cylinder, it only happens when it is running and a few seconds after. if this description doesn't work ill try and get some pictures later. o yea there is also a lot of white smoke, are they related?

its probably you carb bowl drain...tighten screw on opposite side from brass tube

If that doesn't solve it, you may have a leaky float valve. Can't remember which of those two tubes is which, one from the drain Mike mentioned, and the other is carb bowl overflow.

i tighten the screw it stoped leaking thanks for that, i drove it around and it started to bog down and stalled. started right up drove it for a few mins then did the same thing again. i took the carb apart cleaned it extremely well, flushed the fuel tank and line, added new fuel with fuel stablizer in. now it wont start unless i put fuel (gas and oil mix) into the carb, then it runs for about 5-15 sec. then dies. it is getting fuel to the carb, and when i remove the screw for the bowl fuel comes poring out. its like the carb is not sucking fuel out of the bowl. when i cleaned the carb it was not that dirty inside. Any ideas, what did i mess up?

Greetings:

Pull the carb one more time. Look in Tech Docs for the float needle cleaning thread. Get a NEW float needle. Wince at the price. Polish up that seat and reassemble carefully, being sure to catch the little flange on the needle within the "claws" of the float. Check your vacuum petcock again for flow with vacuum, stop flow when released.

Check your tank strainer tube. Add an inline "cone"-type filter from the auto parts store to the fuel line. Fire up ag'in.

And while you've got the carb off, clean those little bitty passageways that cause bogging and non-starting.

Make sure your choke(bystarter) is not wedged in the carb body or spring and plunger is still attached to the end of it.
But it sounds like you just need a good cleaning.
