spree hop up

Post by xj97sport »

hello newbie here
i just got a 85 spree with a gashed up jug and a bad piston and im thinking of boring it out and puttin it back together. now question time,

whats the biggest (still reliable) bore i can go with?
whats a good recommended piston?

while we are at it

a good exhaust?
any thing that can be done to the clutch performance wise?
maybe a carb upgrade?

my dad has a yamaha zuma that i just put new springs and rollers on and now does 45+ no prob. with great acceleration, my other freind has a areo thats been bored and does about 40+ as well ... now i dont wanna get killed when we go ride so im just trying to build it once, build it right, and have some fun.

thanks for any help i can get.

the only known aftermarket bore is a 44mm, 57cc big bore. available on e-bay. search honda spree big bore kit.
there are stories of a 65cc adaption of a jug from a different engine, but with machining is required
aside from that, my advice is to look into your questions further on the forum.
no commercial pipes are available, but with some enginering a pipe from another application can be modified. same for carburation. it all depends on time and fabrication skills.

unfortunatly, friend, the 45+ club is out of the range of stock gearing for the spree. sb50 or dio swap would do the trick...

sorry, i did not state that as clearly as i would like. the gears, as of now, to upgrade the spree drivetrain are non-existant.
the swaps i speak of are whole engine swaps, complete with variator transmissions which allows for retardedly fast scooting.

how fast can you afford to go??? it would not be a stretch to spent over a grand on a nice dio swap, but you could go 70+mph.
as stated before: search the forum. your questions will all be answered. you have options dependant on time and money.

btw:

kit comes with 44mm piston, NEW 44mm jug (not punched out used bores) rings, wrist pin and retaining clips, head gasket, base gasket, and a 95 jet (whick is too big unless you do some crazy race porting  ) he was talking about sending a smaller jet with the kits though, an 85 or something.

here's another motor swap. se50. also fun.

or get one like this: http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... 16&t=10555

this is the sb50: http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... 16&t=10698  that would be very fast in the tiny spree frame.

it's not just a concern of which one to do, they'll all work. it depends on what you want your scoot to do, and how much money you sink in aftermarket goodies. if you get a chineese or an italian engine kit. etc.

If you are going to go through the effort of a motor swap, you really should just throw in a dio.

Your trans is just as important as your motor, and the lack of transmission mods for af05 motors really holds it back.
