Maybe not, if the Scooter Gurus are to be believed. The '83 and '84 Aeros did indeed have a different engine from the later Aeros but it wasn't a Spree engine, and it did have a variator. I suggest you focus :) on the following link:

With a 40mm bore, different crank, kicker cover, and well... just about everything. But it was variated.

well then... i guess my mouth is bigger than my foot :oops:

i guess i allways assumed that it was the same motor as a spree ,'cause the kick starter was toward the front.

ask me some thing about a ruckus or helix 8)

I do have a few varis buuut.... no ramp plates. They are used w/ some of the aftermarket ruck varis like the Posh I have in the ruck. You can get a brand new KN vari from battlescooter.com for about 50 bucks, it comes w/ a back plate and the ramp sliders. The KN is "lower geared" and seems to work better than "higher geared" varis like the posh and polini on two stroke scoots IMO. 8)
