2000 Honda Elite SA50P - Part recomendations needed!!!
I just baught a 2000 Honda Elite SA50P a few weeks ago and would like to make it faster.
One of my friends is fairly good at scooters, and we already have checked, and the roller restricter plate was already removed along with the 'washer' in the exhaust prior to me purchasing it.
I am in the process of trying to get a hold of the throttle cable that also opens the oil valve more...
What i would like to do is make it run up around 55-60mph or so, idealy keeping the best gas mileage as possible (i'm in the process of figuring it out on this tank). I'm looking at a big bore kit, exhaust, rear suspension (i'm over honda's weight limit for the scooter...though i've never bottomed it out), new rollers, clutch spring, and carb...
Most of these parts i was looking at getting them at this guys site (http://sleepyscooters.yolasite.com/), unless you have other recommendations for where i can locate parts. Also keep in mind the one scooter shop around here that sells performance parts WAY over charges for them.
Please note that all the parts are Ruima...anyone have any experience with them, if they are good, etc..
Thats perty much it, any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!!

As Wheelman would say "Dude, swap in a Dio!" Becuase that's the only way a Spree will see 55 to 60 mph.

Re: 2000 Honda Elite SA50P
1) i know a dio is a engine, but thats perty much i know about it...anyone care to expand (where to find them, why their better, that kinda thing)
2) for some reason i was under the impression that i might have a dio....obviously i'm wrong, but there must have been something i read to believe that...
3) also, i dont need to make it run that fast (55-60mph) although that would be nice...i'd be happy with 50 or so...
thanks again!

Re: 2000 Honda Elite SA50P
The engine you have is the Dio based AF16.
Big bore kit, Transmission gears, Variator, & Exhaust, may get you to around the speed you want.

Re: 2000 Honda Elite SA50P
Greetings:
Bear misrepresented me. I would never say "Dude! Swap in a Dio!!" to someone who already had one.
Where did you get the idea that an Elite SA50P was a Spree? The "P" just means the restricted model sold as the Elite S. It's not the much smaller, Spree-derived Elite "E". Confused yet? For the record, you have the AF16E engine, commonly (but mistakenly) called a "Dio" on the Forum.
My Elite reached indicated speeds of over 50 (but just =48.7 on GPS) with only the following:
Aftermarket variator
Bigger 90/90 Pirelli tire (optional)
Ruima 9:1 gears
Suggest an 82 or an 85 main jet
So the bone-stock engine has the power to chase 50MPH true speed. Where you go from there depends on what you need. Faster generally means less reliable and/or durable, however this setup should be a minimal compromise to both.

No disagreement on confusion of the various models. I still scratch my head with the nomenclature.

Wheelman, it's just been in the past couple of weeks that I began to fully understand your byline, "Dude, swap in a Dio". All this time I thought you meant to trade in a Dio for something else. With guys sliding an AF16 under a Spree, now I understand you. Interesting that you finally made the jump to the AF16.
SHIBA,
I bought a 99 SA50P this summer, so we have something in common. Buying scoots so fast has flattened my wallet. I'm anxious to start doing some modding now, starting with a performance variator. But which one?

Wheelman:
Any recomendations on a brand of variator?? Daywot on ebay any good...the Keli Variator? (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Speed-Va ... 684wt_1031)
Or the one from VTCycles? OKO Hi-Speed Pulley Kit (http://www.vtcycles.com/vtc_plugins/zog ... =29&cat=11)
Also, should i just get the Ruima gears from here:http://sleepyscooters.yolasite.com or does anyone else have any recomendations on where to get them. On a side note, do i need to get the gears 'pressed on" to a shaft or something, i though i read/saw that somewhere...
I'm sure theres more, but i cant think of nething else right now!!
Thanks again guys!!! Cant wait to get this puppy up there

Re: 2000 Honda Elite SA50P
I'm leaning toward the VTCycles for mine. But I have no experience to base that on. One thing I do notice, the VTCycles is complete with Pulley, Ramp Plate, 9g Roller Weights, Pulley Boss and Ramp Guides.
The daywot is just the Pulley and weights, and you have to use your old OEM ramp plate, guides and pulley boss, or use the old OEM parts. The difference in price makes the VTCycle a better deal if you intend to replace the other parts. I wouldn't care to put a new pulley on with all those other parts possibly "worn out?"

Re: 2000 Honda Elite SA50P
assuming the shipping cost are very close 'tween the two- yeah go for the one with more new parts.
having said that the ramp plate/guides used or new generally don't wear.
the boss.. maybe but it is another piece that unless you can see wear or it binds in the pulley and 600 grit won't remedy that then yeah.
both are prolly china made and the rollers may be of dubious integrity.

Re: 2000 Honda Elite SA50P
mookie, not right positive but I believe both options are Taiwan. Quality is much better than China.
And again, I'm not positive (Wheelman could answer this), but I think the VTCycle OKO extra parts may be more performance oriented than OEM. It just makes sense to me to have the Ramp Plate and other parts that were designed for the OKO pulley.

Variatoreccomendations
Greetings:
Shiba axt:
The Keli with the stock ramp plate was effective and performed as advertised, especially good pattern for low-midrange acceleration. However, he formula that worked the best for me was the Keli with the OKO ramp plate. Yes, I tried most of 'em...
Others have reported experiments with different ramp plates. At lease one Forum denizen praised the SEF ramp plate, which Patrick at DayWot can also supply. I have one lying around someplace... never tried as I opted to spring for the Polini and a 15-degree plate. Pricey, and I'm not prepared to say it outperforms the Keli by much.
That said, all the variators I've installed have been a bit better than stock for top speed. Any will add 3-5 MPH if your engine's state of tune is reasonable.
Shiba axt:
I was a bit underwhelmed by the straight-up OKO assembly. Maybe it got installed during a dull phase of my tuning, but its shift profile didn't match Flash I's power curve very well. That's not to say it won't work well with a 50 or some other configuration.Any recomendations on a brand of variator??

Re: 2000 Honda Elite SA50P
how about the Ruckus vari?
got one yesterday,(off totalruckus) but haven't installed yet.
except for the o.d. requiring some"machining" it appears to be a drop in
using the stock Aero spacer guide.do i assume that the stock rollers for the Ruck are a good start point? anything else i need to know?
hey what's the deal with all the grease in the older variators?
you'd think it would hinder actuation of the rollers.
i cleaned one for a spare motor i built and used some graphite and thin
teflon juice i had to lube it with but put the ramp plate cover back on.

Re: 2000 Honda Elite SA50P - Part recomendations needed!!!
I'll backup wheelman, considering my combo is a Keli variator w/ OKO ramp plate. I tried Keli+stock/oko+oko/oko+stock and likes this the best, although it could be placebo. I have yet to buy a SEF ramp plate, but all my friends have them and I need to keep up with the Joneses.
I wouldn't grease the rollers on any variator.
