I called VTCycles to order a OKO vari and they were sold out. I ended up getting a Keli. There was a slight improvement but I still need a new belt....
I got the vari with 9g rollers & ramp plate for $50 shipped. I just ordered 9:1 gears from them too for $50 shipped.
BTW, I have a 95 SR.

I have seen Corsa setups with a stock carb (airbox and all!) and a goshi pipe. Sure there is more power to be had with a bigger carb/exhaust, but it's fast + reliable (although not cheap). It does take a knowledgable tuner and an abundance of jets though.

For a first setup, I'd go with something cheap, that way if you ruin something while learning, it's less of a hit on the pocketbook. I went the fast/cheap route, reliability is a question that I haven't answered yet. It's surpassed my expectations already, so I'm already happy.

Check this one out.

I'm still behind the learning curve on this, but as I understand, the AF18 is a true Dio (I have one I'm trying to understand). The AF16 in the Elite 1994-2001 is very similar, top end is the same, but different carburetion and drivetrain. Lots of interchangability, but you have to be careful. Supposedly that is one advantage of VTCycles, those guys are experienced and know there stuff (supposedly) and can tell you what will work or not. You can take that with a grain of salt though, as I haven't dealt with them yet. I do know that the link for the variator for Elite AF16 takes you to a product that is also listed for the AF18.

I guess I'll just have to wait until I soup the Dio. Then I'll have the AF18 parts and old parts from an AF16 I rebuilt to compare.

Photos of the spark plug can be found @ {EDIT: Removed URL, photos no longer available} (thats my site, dont worry, no viruses)

Not sure if i'll need a new plug or not...but my buddy said it looked like it was losing metal on the electrode...or something along those lines...

Thanks again guys!

YES, you definitely need a new plug. I don't see how anything could run like that. It may not solve ALL your problems but a new plug won't hurt. They're too cheap to question replacing... $3.50?

That's not loss of metal, it's buildup of gunk (carbon? corrosion?). I'd get a new plug, or at least try sanding that stuff off this one.
I'd buy a couple extra while your at it.

alright, so i got a new spark plug.....well it was used, but super clean...

went to a local scooter shop to get parts; new belt, roller weights, upjet of #82, and a plug...

all i ended up with was a free used spark plug...he took a wire brush to it and cleaned it up real good...it was the BR8HSA...so the scooter seems a lil more peppy...

but while i was there, he asked why i was trying to upjet so much...considering it was a #68 for stock...i obviously didnt have any 'good' reason...just said that i was trying to get it to go faster w/ a variator, gears, and carb...and he was giving me a '*, this kid has no idea what hes talking about' look...

so i think i'll order one online...

not to mention when we were there, nither me or my friend could remeber/ come up with a reason that i needed such a large jet over the stock size...so....our bad..

It's obvious Hondasan is stuck in the rut of "do it by the book, leave it alone". The SA50P is intentionally designed to pass mustard in states with restrictions, like Iowa. The 68 jet is a part of that, but at an expense. The standard SA50 has a 78 jet. Odds are, the reason your sparkplug looked so terrible is because you were running lean. Hondasan just doesn't undering the chopping process. Little doubt you need to go to a 78 jet to get your sparkpug color out of the white/gray which could burn a hole in the piston.

I doubt too that Hondasan even understands any purpose of variator upgrades. He's a stocker type guy.

Alright, finding a stock jet #78 isnt hard, but does anyone have any recommendations on where i can find a #82 jet for the stock carb?? or will the honda part number trick work??

Also, i am quickly finding that the sites i was planing to buy parts from; variator, and gears, are no longer selling them...does anyone have any recommendations on where else i can get these parts...

i was hoping for ruima 9.1:1 gears, and the keli variator w/ oko ramp plate (plus what ever weights you guys recommend, mine have several flat spots on them)

on a side note, does anyone know if they make dr. pully parts for our scooters? anyone have experience w/ them??

thanks!

Greetings:

The part number trick should work for the #82, which was stock size for 1987 Aero and perhaps others.

Limp on this forum had the Ruima 9:1s not so long ago. PM him. Good prices. DayWOT still has scads of Kelis in his eBay store. You can email him for your particular roller needs too.

Dr. Pulley is long on hype but short on results, at least on this Forum. I'm not positive they even make some for the 13x16 variators. They may be the greatest things ever, but the design doesn't strike me as very efficient intuitively. As the Volkswagen ad used to say, rollers may be Round for a Reason.
