ya mine is in pretty decent shape for being 22 years old and not being taken care of super well the whole time. i cleaned the air filter today and changed the spark plug and wow it runs sooo much better already. I want to clean the carb still for sure. but ya the biggest issue is that noise its making..cant tell exactly what it is but I know its not good and its loud for sure. then little things like the electric start not working and the turn signals not flashing..they stay on solid. i really dont think the battery is working becuase nothin works unless its running and if it has a battery then i would imagine lights and things would turn on with the key on right?? ahhh so many questions!

Surprisingly all the lights on mine work! In fact mechanically there seems to be nothing wrong at all aside from a small carb issue. Brakes brake, lights light, steering steers, suspension suspends, etc...There was no filter when i removed the airbox so that is on the to do list. tires as well. i think i have the original ones on it. They are completely bald and cracked everywhere. I suggest you test the battery before getting a new one. there is a small chance it isnt dead just needs a good charging. And Yeah you had better get that clutch looked into. I also have a ducati with a dry clutch, you wanna talk about loud clutches :)

I would start out by getting a new battery or charging the old one with a small 2amp or less motorcycle battery charger.
Check your flasher bulbs to make sure they are both good. It could also be your flasher relay is shot or just bad wire connections.
Your headlight will only come on when the engine is running.
The only way to see what that sound might be is by removing your belt cover and take a look in there.

Flashers Don't

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

Quoth Kentucky Green:
turn signals dont flash so prob that relay..
99% of the time I've had flashers that didn't it was a bad bulb. The ignition switch turns on the taillamp and instrument lighting, enables the signals and horn. The headlamp requires the engine to be running to light. It's very dim at idle. I have an extra Honda signal relay if new bulbs don't fix your issue.

Quag, are you in Canada? '89 SE50 didn't sell in the US, it was a 1987-only model here.

Yeah im canadian, Montreal Qc to be specific. I knew at some point someone would notice there was something wrong with my model numbers :) no clue why Canada gets differrent models than US, seems odd, but then even car companies do it. As to the headlight i never checked with the engine on so maybe my headlight works as well. thanx

Greetings:

It's not odd at all that a company as big as Honda tailors its scooter line to the tastes and preferences of the target market. Evidently Americans like to carry more stuff with them when they scoot. Enter the SA50 Elite with its helmet-swallowing underseat bin + lockable front glovebox. Canadians seemed to like the swoopier, more elegant styling of the SE50, so that model survived until 1991 there. (Either that, or Honda had a whole boatload of leftover SEs that he needed to pawn off on somebody... ) If you ever shed those plastics, they're very valuable here.

I'm a Laval/Outremonter myself, 24 years in US/Texas Exile. Don't forget to drain your carb ALL the way before you wheel that SE into the shed for the winter. (Next month :P )

I think its more the bucket load of leftovers than anything else. Technically i'm in Pointe-claire now, but no one from outside montreal area would know where that is. And dont worry the carb is going to be removed shortly so all gas will be drained (or ill have a mess)

as to the oil question:
http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... =11&t=8584

thats the link to the service manual and yes it seems you place oil in same hole you use to check the oil level.

Yes its the same hole where you drain the oil out. Just remove bolt, tip scooter way on its side to drain all the oil out. Put scooter back on centerstand and fill until oil begins to leak out of the fill hole. Its best if you can find a squirt type oil can to put the oil in.

so i tooke the clutch side cover off and inspected everything the best I could..everything looks good. except i noticed one reason why my electric start wont work,,its missing the gear that goes from the electric starter gear to the main gear to turn it over!!! hmmm. anyway not a big deal but my main concern is still the LOUD noise that comes from the clutch one your basically at full speed. it sounds like somethings rubbing but it doesnt look like anything is..put it back together and it is still making the same noise. new clutch if i want it to stop?? please help!

went to a scooter shop yesterday and learned a little bit more about scoots in general. I told the guy the noise thats comin from my clutch and he said it would probably be the roller weights...if these are not perfectly round or have never been changed since 87' could this cause a loud racket from the clutch when at full speed? and also when slowing down? thanks for your knowlegable input guys!
