spree mystery after big bore install....any ideas?
ok so i just installed the the 44 big bore and it totaly rocks *!! However I just finished one of my break in runs and when i pulled in to my garage i went to flip the off switch and it didn't turn off. so i pulled the key out off the ignition and it was still running. so now my spree is running with the switch off and the key pulled. next i pull the spark plug wire.....still running....
finally i sqeeze the break and it stops. what was that all about? it did it to me twice tonight. one of my buddies was saying that the compression was so high that it was simply still firing on its own. kind of like a glow plug effect on a diesel. anybody else have this effect after installing a big bore kit? just curious.

Actually it is more likely that there is a burr that is sticking into the combustion chamber that is acting as a glow plug. This isn't diesel fuel you are working with and there is no way you have the 20 to 1 compression required to cause dieseling.

by burr do you mean a piece of debris? I took apart the top end and found no debris.

Ghost Spark
Greetings:
You diagnosed the problem very well. The scooter runs without spark.
That has to mean something is igniting the mixture. A red-hot ember or thin tag of metal stripped off somewhere. Look again for something, anything that can heat to glowing. Otherwise, your jetting may be very lean and the spark plug ground electrode may be your culprit. I'd address that (bigger main jet) before running it at WOT again if this were my ride.

Actually, diesel will ignite with 15/1 compression, but this aint diesel, it's gas. We've all seen automotive engines continue to run (poorly but running) after the key was turned off, and that on stockers.Bear45-70 wrote:Actually it is more likely that there is a burr that is sticking into the combustion chamber that is acting as a glow plug. I think you are right wheelman about it running to lean. I was test riding without the air filter. I had to modify a K&N for the new filter and was waiting for the silicone to dry. I will be putting the new filter on today as it is problaly dry by now. I will keep you posted.
