Need carb help

Post by roadie114 »

I have an Elite 80 that is having some issues starting. it's sat for 15 years, has a fresh battery, new plug, new air filter, verified vacuum petcock operation at the tank. I confirmed I have compression, spark, and if I squirt gas directly into the chamber behind the plug and start it, it will start and run as long as I give it gas. It won't idle at all, and just die, and also won't restart. I've cleaned out the carb 3 times, all passage ways, jets, etc. and confirmed that gas is getting to the carb at the bowl. Could it be the auto enrichment circuit? I verified 12 ohms, but the manual says max of 10. Any help would be appreciated. Thx!!

BTW, setting on idle air mixture screw was 4.5 turns out. I tried default of 1.5 with no change. I also found a screw next to that one that has a notch that limits how far it can be turned. Anybody know what screw that is? Changing that also didn't make a difference.

Clean your carb, per the instructions in the Tech Document Section. The idle circuit is plugged and probably the bystarter too.
