toothpaste for cleaning carb.

Post by jfed1988 »

I've read a couple posts with people saying that they use toothpaste to clean a certain area on their carb. I'm about to take my carb apart and do a thorough cleaning. What brand of toothpaste should i use and also what specific area should i use the toothpaste on? Should i use a toothbrush?

The toothpaste is used to only polish the float seat. Do not clean the whole carb with toothpaste.

Take a small amount of cotton off of a q-tip, then apply the paste to the q-tip, then polish the seat.

My guess is any toothpaste will work

You need to use mint flavored colgate, JK. The toothpaste acts as a lapping compound (like a valve job on a vehicle). Just do it to insure a good seat.

Greetings:

Search "Colgate" and "Minty-Fresh" in Tech . You'll need to strip most of the cotton off that Q-Tip to fit the float needle bore. Any polishing paste - the kind with fine diatomaceous grit - will work. Colgate is what I had handy and it worked. Plus Flash had minty-fresh breath and 63.4% fewer cavities for months.
