spree help needed

Post by petey »

Hey I just got a 1987 spree. It has not been started in years. I got a new battery, spark plug, oil and gas. But it will not start. There is no spark at all. Do I need a new coil? The fuse looks good (There is only one right?) How do I test the cdi?
Help!

I should add that once the new battery was in and charged the lights and horn work, but no spark.

ok so I didnt know you had to hold the break to turn the motor on. it seems to turn over, but it is not starting. Today is my day off and I am going to clean the carb.

The scooter turns over, it wants to start, but there is not spark. I put a new spark plug in, gapped it and tried and still no spark. I pulled the plug out and tried to get it to spark outside of the motor by grounding a screwdriver to the frame and putting the plug next to it. Still no spark.
I spent yesterday cleaning the carb, simple. However, without a spark it is pointless.
So I am back, to guessing if it is the coil or the cdi.

By the way thanks for the help.

Get out an ohmmeter and check the resistance of the coil.

What's the condition of the wiring harness?
