spree fouls plug like all the time.
My 86 spree was running great all summer then one day started to run crappy(hesitate off the line, sputter etc.)I baked the muffler, cleaned the carb(full dismantle),moved the clip up one notch, replaced plug and she runs good for about 10-15 min.then acts up.Put in new plug again runs great then 10-15 minutes into the ride she acts up again? too rich of main jet? leaking fuel valve line? There is no air leaks.what's going on here? frustrated and confused.
Re: spree fouls plug like all the time.
im going to assume your plug is black and oily? if so to rich.

Does it now smoke noticeably worse than it used to? If it does you could have an oil pump with a seal leaking oil into the crankcase. It takes an unbelievably amount of fuel to foul a plug in just 15 minutes. It would effect the running from the get go when you changed the plug.

It does smoke alot more now then before.Has this happen'd to you.is this a common thing that happens?
Re: spree fouls plug like all the time.
Has it happend to me? No but 20+ years of being a professional 2 stroke mechanic tells me it is unlikely to be a fuel problem. Are pump seals failures common? No, but it does happen.toofast34 wrote:It does smoke alot more now then before.Has this happen'd to you.is this a common thing that happens?

not the gearbox.
question is can you still buy the seal by itself?
your not for some reason adding oil to the gas tank are you??

Olde Crappy
Greetings:
Brad axez:
) growth in hydrocarbons is a known issue.
Now the "crappy" part, well, yes perhaps some less-refined products produce more residues to foul plugs more quickly. But the main determinant of plug life expectancy seems to be the quantity of oil, as Jennings and others' reports suggest. Ratios down to 15:1 in fact do cause fouling rather quickly.
Nobody would mix such a ratio on purpose for a street scooter, but a leaky seal and time might have the same effect. I submit that the best bet is to pull the oil pump, replace the seal/pump, drain the crankcase and start with fresh GN-2 or HP-2 for you Synthetic fans.

Interesting question rat thar. I'm not sure motor oil has a "shelf-life" unless measured in Geologic terms. Still, bacterial (Would running with old crappy oil foul a plug fast was well?

Re: spree fouls plug like all the time.
The problem is not the "o" ring but the seal on the oil pump shaft. Since there are no service parts for the pump, it is a matter of taking the pump apart. Then taking the seal to a bearing or seal store and get it matched and reassembling the pump.mookie wrote:part number-
