Everyone keeps pushing that SL-26 tire... WHY? It does not look good on an Aero at all. If you want a classic look that the Aero 50 deserves buy the SC-30 Pirelli retro tire. It looks so much better!!!!!! It again is my opinion but I have owned both..... Have you to argue?

i have never used the sc-30's, so i cant really say one way or another. all i know is that the stock hard compound and skinny tires suck, compared to pirellis fat and sticky tires... and well i just like the agressive modern tread patterns.

Good buy though, doesn't sound like you need to hear that from anyone now though. You've been infected with scooterphilia!
I have an '85 Aero 50 as well... and I'm in Newberg :coolcruise:

I ride an 85 Aero too, and I have 3.00x10 SL26's. I think they're a great looking tire and they vastly improved overall ride especially on gravel. I do have one major complaint that may or may not be related to the tire itself. Whenever I really push it going into a corner the rear tire will lose traction and start skipping/shuddering/violently sliding at which point I slam on the brakes and check my britches. :surprise: I'm lucky to have many years experience so I'm able to keep my cool and keep it level. Now, for the Aero people, it may be related to the fact that the tire is mounted on the original skinny (1.85?) wheel. The ballooning affect could be affecting ground contact on cornering. Another equally viable issue could be, what seems like, a lack of dampening in the rear spring. It feels like there could be an oscillation type thing going on when I start bouncing when leaning into a fast corner. Anyone had a similar experience?

Greetings:

Consider Daywot's "Blue" shock at 270mm. It gives about a cm. of extra travel, has actual damping action and will change your life. Or at least decrease your laundry embarassments. Last time I checked he was getting about $70 for one. You may need to extend the centerstand a bit.

hey everyone, back to my aero, winter is starting and im thinking about getting a BBK, but i dont want to get a big bore kit if i cant find gears for it. someone said something about the malossi gears for my scoot but i am not having any luck finding them.
i dont want to just big bore it because i feel like if i dont re gear it wouldnt unleash its potential. plus i think i could get away with the tall gears because im light.. any help would be appriciated!!

Aero Gears

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

You can try Malossi USA (631) 427-2853. Ask about gear kit number 67-6458 for Vision. These are 7.83:1 and pretty tall even for a robust BBK. However if you are light in weight you may find the take-off performance acceptable. Top speed before over-rev approaches 60, presuming sufficient power.

If they can't help you, consider sourcing 10:1 gears from an '87 SE50 and mounting a 3.50 rear tire.

Oops, just read your post. I'd start around 100 main and jet down to 96 or so if using stock NB50 carb.

Good Luck!

Hey Rob,
How's about some side photo's of your Aero.

I can see something blue on the side but can't make it out on the picture post.

novs, its just a honda sticker...it had been sprayed before i bought it. i have new white HONDA decals for the sides once i re spray the side shells to match the front which i already did. i want better stock aero panels but all the parts aeros i check out make my pannels look pretty good haha.

wheelman-ok, im still thinking it through... would 10:1 gears be easy to find used? im not looking for crazy high top speed, cruising at 45 and top of 50 would be sweet. would the 10:1 be tall enough? and i already am rockin a 3.5 rear tire.
thanks!

GAero-ing Up

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

10:1 gearing and a rev limit of 9-9.5K should net 45 for sure. Just measure top speed you have now and add the 11/10 multiplier. If you have a source for the Malossis, I think you'll like them better. Just be prepared to ride Wheelie-free. They's Tall for 65cc, however well-tuned.

BTW don't "rock" your rear tire. You could get a puncture.

wheelie free is alright by me! ill try the malossi gears when i get my big bore broken in. or should i do it all at once since the taller gear would keep revs down for break in?
