The trouble with that is that it takes next to no power to run that little light. While to run the starter solenoid take a couple of amps.

This circuit tester has already solved about 3 problems. I got battery acid and charged the battery, IT LIVED after an hour! before the acid, circuit tester got nothing from the positive terminal, put battery acid in, charged for 2 hours, test it and its charged. Put in scooter, test the ignition fuse, has power. I also took 2 blackboxes from their connectors and tested the connections, they're good. Then I tested the ignition wire, nothing. Took out connectors and blew them out, replaced them, test ignition, and the light went on. But the starter did nothing, I even hooked the battery directly up to the starter, got nothing. Could it be a bad starter?

No, it is not, these batteries need to charge up to 12 hours an less than a couple of amps to be fully charged (better than 12.8 volts). If you fast charged it you probably ruined the battery.

Ok, well I took your info that the battery wasnt fully charged, and sure enough, when I hooked it up to a car battery, the back light went on. Horn works, flashers work, but when I hit the start button with engine on and break, nothing. So everything works except the starter. any tips?

Not if you are slow charging.

I have a 1.5a 6-12v charger, it has something called 'float' mode, that will keep the battery safe I believe
And why would my lights and stuff work but not the starter?

To get the starter to crank require a bunch of things not required for the lights to work (the fuse good and the ignition switch to work). First the starter solenoid has to be good. To activate the solenoid you need the starter button to work and the brakes have to be on (the brake light has to be on). Then if all those things work, the battery has to be good enough to run the starter. It take 30 to 50 amps to run the starter, so the +12 volt connections have to be good to the starter from the battery, along with the ground connections from the battery to the engine. Then of course the starter itself has to be good.

Could I screw something up if I connected a jumper cable from the car directly to the starter solenoid? I feel like that would blow something up

Greetings:
If you press the Start button and hear a faint click from under the saddle, the relay likely works. In that case test the starter motor as suggested on page 5. If it spins, it's good.
I wouldn't use something as big and clumsy as a jumper cable to test a relay, or a starter for that matter. AutoParts stores and even Wal-Marts sell inexpensive spade connector assortments and rolls of 10G wire with which you can cobble up test wires with a cheap crimper. Hook up to any 12V battery to do the tests.

Thanks wheelman. Ill do that tomorrow, how hard is it to get the starter off the body? do I have to removee anything to get to the screws to get it off? Or can I test it with the female spade jumper without taking it off at all?

There's a pic there that might help.

Note the subtle smoky shadow on the starter housing. Could have been caused by arcing sparks from the negative terminal. But I'm only guessing due to lousy Wheelman-quality pic.
