Ok so after burning through a couple tanks and not really feeling like the R1 was getting me where I wanted to be I picked up a pg long from G9 and through it on. Even being way out of tune it seems to breath so much better. Next week I will get it tuned it and hopefully I'll be good to go through summer.

Can you go into more detail about what you didn't like about how it was running before you decided to get that PH pipe? Just curious. Was it lacking power somewhere or what?
Also, have you done any adjusting on your 3g clutch?
And also, could the 9.4 gears have anything to do with it?

Firstly I think the R1 was still partially clogged and needed a good bonfire. well running a 40 slow and a 102 main. I was reaching the upper limits of temp 380s pulling up major hills. All this with only being able to use half the throttle. Granted the 40 was high I'm sure but anything over half throttle was just noise no power. Half throttle will get up and go and still pull 50+mph just took longer. My clutch is tightened all the way down. Recently dropped my roller weights down to 6.5 and 6s. As for the gears yes that will be something to deal with later on but that isn't keeping me from reaching 60. My weights were way off for sure and will play with that and my clutch after tuning it in a bit. It hits hard when it engages just not getting the power like it should. I have no doubt that R1 exhaust would be a great pipe for low/mid if it was flowing the way it should. Figured I'd be buying a new pipe soon anyway just decided to do it sooner than I wanted.

got some tuning done today. currently running a 35 slow and 102 main Pg long on it. its a bit sluggish will need to adjust my clutch springs to help take care of some of that. could feel it lose some power right around full throttle. think Im gonna like the PG long and just shows how much that R1 was restricting me. will burn it out and try to sell it as I think its just clogged. G9s buddy has a build very close to mine so Ill have some help getting it dialed in. temps did reach 340 at a 3/4 long pull up a slight incline. think my fuel is a bit rich somehow as it just seems to be running pretty rich for some reason. might drain it and put new fuel in or just burn through it.

Glad to see it's improving. These things are never just a situation of bolting a bunch of parts on and having a finished product with great driveability.
Do you mean your pre-mix is rich? You said fuel is rich, but that wouldn't make sense to drain it.

Yeah I think my premix is rich.. Just a feeling can't say if that's true or not but with the jets I'm running I shouldn't be blowing as much smoke as I am in my opinion. The mechanic at work said it sounded rich also and just don't think it should with the 102 main. Like I said it's more of a gut feeling. Trust me nobody is happier about running better more than me. Except maybe G9 as im currently giving his lil one a nice college fund!

I don't know how you could ever "hear" what kind of fuel/oil ratio you could have. In all honesty, unless you were running a super rich ratio, it really shouldnt make any noticable difference in the way it runs. Seems like most around here like to run 32:1 which is the old school rule of thumb. With newer oil technology, leaner mixes are possible, but anyway. Leaner oil/fuel mixtures increase power output, but again it would have to be an extreme swing to notice any real world difference in power.
What kind of oil are you burning? How did you mix it?
Obviously a richer oil mixture is going to smoke more, but oils vary quite a bit in their smoking. Also, if you are running a really rich air/fuel ratio, more smoke again.
Before you go crazy with your jetting, make sure you have a good fuel/oil mix. The Ratio Right cups are pretty easy and handy. Then start messing with your jetting.

do you still have the 1000 center spring ??
my corsa wouldn't run for crap with a 1000 spring
if you do take it out put in a malossi yellow

Usually pretty diligent about my mixing but was out and it was late and dark when I checked my baby bottle(nice measurements and seals up) it was off by atleast an ounce. I'm sure I'm just imagining it. I'm a bit hyper sensitive after all the things I've gone through to get this bike running right. Typically have fuel mixed in a can at use that but I was on the other side of town.
Running a red contra currently and need to replace it. Will try the yellow contra. Thanks for the suggestion.

That pipe looks nice! I'm still having a hard time deciding what I want to use. To get her going, I'm going to leave the Tecnigas Next R that I have on there ( I know , the chamber is too small, falls up at higher rpm, etc. All of that stuff everyone tells me) until its up and running and I choose a pipe. I really had my heart set on a sweet expansion chamber pipe like those Yusuni's but I don't know if they will ever exist. I just love the way a nice chamber pipe looks and sounds even though the guru's here say they are difficult to get right, and tuning is hard. But man I want one! I think they just finish the bike off right and visually scream performanxe! But I might have to settle for something like what you have there.
Can't wait for you to get all the bugs worked out and dialed in since your bike is *probably* closest to my build. Want to get a good review on it once the Gooch is running right.

My stock clutch has a Blue spring on it now. It seemed to work well when I had the CMR kit from VT on it, although I'm not even sure if it was actually working well since I didn't know very much at the time I built it. The guy at VT basically said "I'll sell you this spring- it will help". In fact, that is how my entire setup was pretty much built lol

Yeah I was trying to hold out for the yasuni G9 is working. I wanted to try and get another month or so out of the R1 but it just wasn't functioning right and honestly could've made a fire and cleaned it out and maybe got a good run out of it. The PG Long is good option there is a reason the islanders run em. Best option and its local so I jumped on it and the sound is good as I drive through my quiet hood early in the am a lot and I like my neighbors friendly. It's nice to have G9 close by and he built a elite recently for his friend that we will be able try lots of things between us both to find the best setups.

changed out my clutch springs from green to yellow(only ones I have on hand) running a mix a 6 and 6.5 gram rollers and a red contra. still a dog till about 20 then takes off. will be picking up a blue contra from my dealer errr i mean G9 this weekend and will throw that in. feeling some slippage a low speed and its a bit spongy on response at speed when I let off then hit the throttle again. might need to drop my rollers also.

try some 5 gram rollers. you should be able to get very good pick up with lighter weights

yeah my contra is suspect was better than my old one but still was used.so gonna get a new one in so I know everything is fairly new so I know there are no weak spots. then Ill start playing with rollers but I will need to drop down for sure.
