ya, thats the idle adjustment (anyone correct me if i'm wrong here).... but no matter what, you need an adjustment screw there in order to properly regulate your idle... no screw = it most likely wont work

the idle screw is the one thats there. upper screw, the one missing is the mixture screw. it definetly needs it. get it or get a new carb. that is the reason it wont run

click on the "board index"(above) look under "technical documents" and look for "how to clean my carburator" and "How to add kickstart to an 84/85 Honda Spree" there are some good pictures that show some some of ,if not all of the things your interested in. the picture that you posted of your kicker gear shows a "glob" of weld near the end of the teeth on your half moon gear. that is like that from the factory. it is used as a stop for the return travel of the kicker gear. a new gear that i just recieved also has that.

pm me your mailing address and i will donate to you an air screw and spring.
charge the battery with any low amp"trickle" type charger. a car charger will do set at 2 amps or it's lowest setting BUT 12 volts.
note- don't crank on the starter until the battery is dead again. if it's going to start it'll start right away.
no good frying the starter, now is it...
fuel-your not getting any.
you need some.
here is how you can determine if it is flowing TO the carb.-
see the fuel line going to the carb from the gas tank?
pull it off the carb.
then either kick or e-start the scoot for about 3 seconds. is fuel coming out of the fuel line onto your shoe?if no then the petcock/fuel valve is no longer serviceable.it will require replacement.
if the answer is yes fuel is flowing then the problem is in the carbs innards.
see previous link to cleaning it.

Well if that glob is normal, then im still stuck as to what the problem is with the kickstart.

have you tried to go to the tech. articals i've mentioned on this site? look up "how to install a kickstart on a '85 spree". it will show you som great pictires of what the gears should look like when you go to apply the cover to the scoot. its hard to tell but the picture you posted seems like your bendix gear (the part that contacts the teeth on the starter gear/flywheel
is off to the side and not engaged with the teeth on the half moon gear. please try to look up these articals on this site. the pictures are priceless.

I looked through the pictures. I didnt take any pictures of the Bendix while it was inside of the bike, so im not sure what your seeing. Looking through those pictures, i didnt see anything that would be out of place.

Kinda what i was thinking. What are you smokin portable?

I was skimming through the posts and i personally think them jacked up teeth are your culprit with the kick-start. Bendix looks good. that's not the flywheel, it's called the front drive face. Does same thing as a flywheel but it's better to know technical name when talking about it on theses forums

.
replace the carb screw and put bendix back in and start using the electric start again!

i just bought and recieved a new "spindle" (half moon gear) as its called in the attatched link.it arrived with the same buggered (factory weld) as i had on my old gear. my gear had three teeth ground off aboght a third of the way along though.
as i look at his spindle it has the "welded teeth" at the end but his rack seems in good order.
please forgive my ignorance as to your terminoligy, i was just trying to help

the small gear is not engaged with the spindle, in that counterbore to the right of the spindle in the outer case.
the picture of your carb. is very dirty. i hope that was taken before you cleaned it.

Hey everyone sorry for no updates. I have been shipped to California for work for a couple days and i didn't have time to tear into the bike last week.
I should be tearing into it early next week(cleaning carb, replacing lines, cleaning out old fuel). I will post pictures and more questions for sure.
One question i did have now was, its been awhile...so i dont remember what kind of oil i need to use. I have automix for the oil and fuel on my bike, do i just use regular 2 stroke oil from walmart? Does it make a difference? What do you recommend?

i would go to the local motorsports shop and get the GN-2 2 stroke/injector oil. its thinner for the injector, the oil at walmart is thicker, unless the are going to run premix.

I thought my kick start gear was messed up too but it turns out the first few 'teeth' on the half moon gear ARE indeed flat. They're even flat in the manual and the kickstart tutorial. I cleaned mine the re-greased it.

I'm back to it today, cleaning the carb, charging the battery, replacing the fuel lines.
I bought an inline fuel filter, and some lucas fuel system cleaner...
Now, i'm going to grab some new GN-2 2 stroke/injector oil @ a local honda dealership. Drain out the oil tank and refill. Comments about cleaning the tank???
Questions-
Should i install the fuel filter?
Should i use the Lucas cleaner? and what should be my proportions?
How do i clean the gas tank? Do i need to?
How do i clean the oil tank? Do i need to?
I noticed when i took the air filter out...its near dry. How do you go about adding oil to the filter? What oil do you use? Where do they sell it?
THANKS!
