Ok, I'm seven days away from picking up the rest of the bike from storage. As it stands now, the motor going in the bike is a Malossi cast iron 'sport' kit with a PG Short exhaust. I am using the Stage 6 intake manifold and a Mikuni TM24 carb.

Any jetting recommendations? I'm in Austin, which is super hilly. According to my Garmin GPS, I'm 700 ft above sea level. So, what should a nice baseline for slow and main jet be on the TM24 carb? I'd like to hear figures for sea-level and 700 ft above sea level (because there will be places I ride outside of Austin that are sea level).

Greetings:

The Mik TM24 on Flash III currently has a 160 installed. Pilot is a #15. I do not beleve 700' ASL is going to require much of a change, but of course the different setups might.

Thanks, that is very useful. The stock jets that came with my carb are 15 slow and 130 main. Do you think using a 140 main jet is too big for my elevation?

Greetings:

Offhand, 140 sounds quite small. I know you have the Stage6 intake and Malossi "Sport" - I presume 72cc? - but your porting, compression ratio, operating RPM and pipe will make a much bigger difference than altitude anywhere in Tejas. Unless you ride West into the Tacos Mountains, your Altitude is just not a significant issue :imo: . I'm running a basically unported Nikasil 78, chamber pipe and operating range 8500-9500 - using 160. Not that it matters but my riding is all at MSL + 25. (Minus 5 during Hurricane Season  )

What's the difference between your Stage6 and my CT Chrome manifolds?

Ok, I'll put a 160-165 main jet just to break it in nicely. The Malossi is the 72cc cast iron one. I have an aluminum one that I'll put in the second motor.

The stage 6 is just nicer as-far-as construction and materials, that's all.

I have the secondary gear set (9:1) I bought from VTcycles. I think I have to replace the plastic washer with a metal one, since the primary drive shaft doesn't spin too well when all buttoned up with the transmission cover.

Greetings:

Yes, the CT is a rough bit of hardware. I was turned loose with a Roto-Zip a few days ago:

Sorry don't have a better pic of the finished product, but 'tis a far, far smoother item now. The reed block in the CT is a twin composite two-petal affair with metal damper. I wondered about metal fatigue and leaflet inhalation after time. What are the Stage6 reeds like?

Today was the day. It took 10 kickstarts, but my Malossi cast iron cylinder fired up for the first heat cycle. I did about 5 minutes of modulating/blipping the throttle while the bike was on the center stand. Gotta say, I loved the sharp raspiness and growl of the PG short pipe. I'll do another heat cycle around 8-9 pm, and hopefully won't * off the neighbors.

Here it is during the second heat cycle:

Notice the fuel coming out of the overflow tube. I have to adjust the float level, and this is my second TM24 carb I've used that was super sensitive to float level.

the pipe you got on there is the pg typhoon.the pg short looks like a pg long just a little shorter. The pilot sound like it to small.if you let it idle for a bit and grab a quick half throttle, does it bogg? when I ran that same carb,I had a 22.5 pilot with a airbox on so if you got the 15 in,its to small.
Nothing like getting stroked!

It hasn't bogged on me at all, but then again, I haven't let it idle for longer than 3-5 seconds without blipping the throttle. I have a 20 and 25 slow jet I could try, but I'll do that after I see if it bogs in the scenario you described. Also, I'm 700 feet above sea level. Bakaracer, what if it doesn't bog, would you say the slow jet is right?

The carb is letting a trickle of fuel come out of the fuel overflow tube. I'm guessing I have to adjust the float level?

Dang, I specified the PG short, and vtcycles sent me the typhoon. Is there a massive difference in performance?
