Finally got back into the engine work this afternoon. Split the case and pulled the crank out. I can't get the oil pump side bearing off of the crank so it is in the car for a trip to the local tool borrow box at the auto parts store tomorrow. With any luck the bearing will come off, and the rebuild can begin. I spent a good amount of time cleaning off the old gaskets from the case halves and should be ready to start getting it together this week. This build has taken way longer than I hoped, but I have been going slow with all of the snags I have hit. It has however allowed me time to start tearing into the Dio now that most of the parts are here, two scoots of fun

If the bearing's stuck to the crank there may be a reason. A cooked crankcase I bought from eBay had a bearing that resisted 3 sizes of Bearing Separator tools, then Honda-san himself couldn't pry it loose. He had to resort to destructive methods, breaking the outer race, then cutting and chipping off the inner from the shaft. Depending on the history of the engine, evidently they can weld themselves on.

Oh don't curse my already troubled build like that Wheelman! I don't have any reason to think the bearing has welded itself on yet, I just don't have the giant Harbor Frieght bearing puller that you do at home (it may be time to upgrade your toolkit description from sticks and rocks, to entry level mechanical devises). So I will run to the parts store on my lunch break to see if the bearing will pop off easily
