Take out the inline fuel filter

Why not just open the bowl drain and see if there is fuel in the carb rather than disassemble the air intake system?

Because gas directly through the venturi will rule out all carb issues. This will help to isolate the issue.

How so? All It will tell you is that fuel directly into the intake will either make it run or not. the carb could be fine except maladjusted.

I think a new spark plug would be the first thing to try after making sure the stop run switch is in the run position.

I thought he already did the plug, must have been another thread.

Yes, all it will do is narrow it down to the engine or something before the engine. I would call that a big step forward from knowing there is a problem somewhere on the tg50.

1985 gyro guy ihave 5 gyros and have done done ring jobs on several slight hone and new rings never a bore and have always have had complete sucess your bike needs new rings definitely 65 psi is way too low thats a must no ifs ands or buts u should be able to get everything u need for under 50 bucks i still think u may have another underlying problem electrical maybe a cdi box keep us posted on what u find out

Anyone that has done several hone jobs on 2 scooter has not had success. The idiots leading the unknowing into disaster. There is a right way and a wrong way and a hone job is the wrong way over 95% of the time.

Yes, that is the odd part. He says it starts and runs for a little bit with no problems and then it dies.

Re-check compression with a different gauge.

That is way to low to even run.

I think your gauge is whacked.

I had a similar problem on a spree.......It ended up being the gas tank.

Make a test gas tank out of an old coke bottle, and see if your problem goes away.

Read through the posts and I agree compression is a bit low, But... have seen many honda's run with horrible rings, pistons scored to s***, ect...
Wondering why nobody has yet said to check exhaust for blockage? Typical problem on most all older hondas I've delt with. Will run but not for long or will not rev, Check your exhaust.
Don't be scared to do a top end rebuild, It's really not that hard.

But if the problem was a blocked exhaust pipe, why does it run OK after sitting for a while?

He has the wrong inline fuel filter not letting enought gas thru it so the bowl emptys out after a while then sits and re fills

That makes more sense.
