i couldnt log in to post here , from my phone it was ok, but not my laptop. Anyways
I repaired the SPark PLUG coil thingy... I got spark , I added stock airbox back on , kinda back how it was with my #78 main jet... i tuned the Carb idle down some, but speed and pic up was nice going 37, which is kinda normal . I rode 18miles from the Coast to inland at 10:40pm very cold. chilly night riding is too cold for my little gloves but at traffic lights I am doing a wheelie off the line.
I believe monday the STOCK air filter will be at the shop i ordered it and i will soon order a Vari ,
Wheelman said he change his crumbling black filiment filter and was going 42mph? mine is sticky with old natural funk breaking apart on one side, so when i swap in a new one we will see how fast i go.

check your compression to see where its at. also what ramp plate is in the variator? its the plate that covers the rollers in the variator.

The ramp plate and everything is stock, when i got it a year ago, I pulled off the ramp plate , checked my rollers for flat spots , wiped down my plate , it was all looking very nice stock/plate/rollers/belt/vari ..... no crap or crumbs from the belt under the double cover. mine is 2001 SR , but my friend has the 94, his was ok, had belt crumb in there , but he was going at least 39-40 and he as the K&N air filter and unknown main jet. So it sucks having a best friend who has an older uglier scooter be able to ride faster then me:P . My 2nd best friend checked my compression and plug , he told me it was good and normal. I guess i need to get my AM vari because stock isnt getting me faster then 37 (on Flat)
Gas is now 3.69 here ! in one week it jumped up 30-35cents. Soon my scoot will be daily rider.
I didnt get the new Stock Filament filter yet. I will report speed and acceleration feel with 1 air slot from box or 2slots.

what size back tire are you using?

I changed my back tire 2 weeks ago? 90/90 -Ten inch Kenda brand . Tubetype
With my new back tire i feel like i gained 1mph ? or it has something to do with when i broke my Spark plug connection then replaced that & made my airbox stock again by blocking one of the air vents . But I am old holding 36mph. I forgot to say I finally got my new Filament stock type inside the airbox... but speed is same.
back wheel to me looked smaller then the old/stock one i had but i guess it looks like it is supposed to.
I need to turn my idle down , but the way i got it MPG still seems about 82, and i wheelie off the line , but if i tune down idle and the 2nd jet thingy wrong I loose top speed -- main jet #78 ... i put my #88 jet in the plastic bag it came in until I get my vari + rollers.
California Sunshine - This saturday I will ride from Sea World San Diego to Los Angeles , under 5hours at 36mph stopping for gas only twice. this will be the 2nd time doing this

... this time i am wearing my "longJohn/thermals/tights

Greetngs:
Carbon build-up in the exhaust could be the factor holding back your speed.

Carbon buildup in my exhaust pipe ?
I am sure i looked down into my pipe and seen nothing in the past months ago, even when i asked in another post about SR type elites having that washer to remove, i remember then i was looking down into it - very clean no build up , 2 weeks ago checking the main jet with the carb off , i looked into the "intake" looked clean and good(no buildup) , but I want my friend to Port & Polish the intake like he did on my first scoot long ago(04), i think(4sure) it made a difference... Will i damage my exhaust if I made it BREATH easier, I have the stock SR Expipe has there ever been mods to that? How can i clean out my Expipe ? get some sea foam in there ? I think the Expipe is fine but I will check with flashlight and give a look. Maybe snake in some sock and pull it out? I dunno .
I am not sure since i never bought the Elite SR 2001 brand new what to expect stock and work my way up , but i thought 35mph was very stock and ok speed? If i dumped my Girlfriend right now , for sure being single is a money saver, I would get the vari+rollers sooner , but OMG my girlfriend wants panties and nice things to wear. Sucks she will never have the skills to ride a scooter/ or bicycle , but i can easily put her on my back ( 98pounds of cuteness) + my 170pounds.
I am kinda small weight for my size of 6'2 , my friend "Big Dan" 5'9 and 270pounds could only go 30mph when he rode his 50cc . Glad to be healthy.
if i lost 8pounds can i go 2mph faster?

LOL
I dont believe losing 8 pounds will net you much, if any, top speed gain. You might possibly, if you have gps hidden in your skull, see an increase in accelration. But it wont do much. Sorry man

How can i clean out my Expipe ? Put it in a fire pit for awhile or use some "instant power"...soak in some kind of tub or plug one end of muffler and pour in the other end. Good idea to wear gloves and safety glasses in case it erupts! What do you mean by Expipe?
This stuff has concentrated lye

Thanks ... by Expipe = Exhaust pipe . So no to drilling a hole in the pipe from the end like we did to my old 87 Elite.

... I am in San Diego California and I never seen this "instant Power/ Brand" is there something in California that you know I can buy? is that like some draino / cleaning sink drain pipes? .... I am already 95% sure my Exhaust pipe is fine .... Today I rode from Sea World(SD) to Los Angeles , my air box has the 2 slots where the air flows in , I blocked one with PAPER after i realized the bigger jet didnt make a difference in speed, so i plugged it with a wad of paper. Today going about 37mph I felt a big hesitation and dropped down to 32 quickly and couldnt go faster, then on FLAT i was only going 34, I pulled over after 1 min of riding like that and seen that the little paper wad came out , So i put a bigger/long one in there that wont slip out, turned my idle down took Off .... 37mph , nice all the way to LA kinda only stopped for gas once , getting 80mpgallon. I wish I had some 7-11 that sold vari + 9g rollers. Why can i only find these things online , i hate buying things online:P
Huntington Beach, Long beach , Dana Point , Newport Beach, --- all looking nice this time of year if anyone is wondering.
Jason
PS- I might loose 8-10pounds, there is this new girl , showed her my scoot and she gave me a big smile

You probably can't get it in Cali since it can be bad for the environment, just a guess. Yes it's a drain cleaner that has lye in it, and lye is caustic. It sounds like you are "soft-seizing" from the extra air. Make sure the air box is sealed up good, if so, keep that extra slot blocked.

No , its been raining too. I almost went out before looking out the window. Wow rain and thunder and i didnt even hear it!
Tomorrow I am going to this Bike Center to see if the filter is there. When i was in LA , i was going to buy a tube and tire from them - over the phone , but 2 days later when i said are my parts in they told me they didnt even ORDER my jet or tire, I told the guy why the * did i give you my credit card info over the phone ? I wanted to smack him . That is why i got my main jet in Los Angeles , they had it in stock on the shelf - a motorcycle SHOP with dirt bikes.
My air box is closed tight , things with Lye? isnt that like illegal in California ? I heard about something with those ingredients not sold in Cali i think. I am from Canada so i dont pay too much attention to that.
Tomorrow I hope it doesn't rain because i will go to the bike center and get the filter and maybe pick a new K&N filter ... maybe.
Tomorrow when i am actually in the shop I will update you on air filter/filament new or old. The stock air box had 3 screws in there tight so the box is good and for now it has 1 slot with #78 main jet.
