And my by-starter is stuck in the "hot" position, making cold starts a pain in the butt.

Can you take a side view pic of the bystarter showing how far out the needle/collar are?

You were right, I was running WAY rich. The air screw was screwed ALL the way in. There is visible space between the collar and the top plastic, and does move a considerable bit. We had a cold snap a few weeks ago, and the bystarter was in the warm position then too. And it was like 40 outside.

Change your fuel lines to clean ones. Those old ones are asking for trouble. OH, and yes your manual bystarter is working properly.

What size and length hoses are the fuel lines? What about the oil lines?

Got me, I just took my spare carb and intake in and they matched the hose to the nipples. I bought about 6 feet of each hose size so I would have the stuff on hand.

Fuel line is 4.5mm, Oil line 3.5mm, putting the id n-between fractional inch sizes.

I imagine you had the air screw all the way in so it would run right due to the bystarter malfunctioning, glad to hear the manual choke works I may invest in one next time my bystarter goes on the fritz

Well, the real test will be after it gets colder and it sits for a few days. It's 55 here in Wichita, and I went out and it fired right up, without flipping the choke at all. I'm going to let it sit for a few days to see if this will help with hard times getting it started after it sits and when it is cold.

So far so good, other that having to bend the C-clip that comes with it so it'll be held firmly in place.
