9:1's will be too high of gear on a bbk in my opinion.
Did you check with redeftperformance? I recommend the Malossi kit.
there is no such thing of over reving these motors. get that out of your head. no matter if you use 10to1 or 9to1 or 8to1. once they peak out on topend, the rpms are the same. the cylinder port timing and exhaust will limit the rpms.the smaller gears is only stretching out the power the motor puts out. its the same thing a car or motor cycle does when changing gears. except in 2 stroke motors the port timing or pipe is the rev limiter.

You are right Bakaracer, there is no "red line" on these like a car motor. I was saying in other words that you would be wasting the rpm's by running too low a gear for the power of the motor. That is what I meant. I mis-spoke when I said "high" gear. Yet I am still the student in the two-stroke world.

Im going for more lower end for uphills and wheelies and only 55mph. More is cool but I really want that low end. thats Why I decided to go with 9-1. And it works great with stock setup. I did check the link you included, haven't spoken with him about it yet, however. The price is remarkable in comparison to the corsas I have found. It will be a couple weeks until I can afford all the parts. I would like to get them all at once so I can install them at the same time. Thanks for the help!! That malossi is a big turn on!! I think I've got a chubby...
If 9.1-1 gives you more lower end for uphills how much speed is sacrificed on the up end? Right now on a long flat stretch I'm topping out at 39.4 mph in my bone stock '87 SE50 Elite. If I was to change to the 9.1-1 final gearing, how would that 39.4 be affected? Thanks. :coolcruise:

9.1:1 gives better low end compared to say 8.44.:1. Stock gearing is something quite higher than 9.1:1 to be honest I'm not sure what. I'm sure someone could chime in with that answer but the lower the number the more mph you can go... for example you reach a higher top speed with 8.44:1 than 9.1:1, given your motor has enough power to push it. My scoot stock handles 9:1 great I didn't loose too much take off power in the swap either. I'm also not sure if yours being the SE50 takes the same gear parts as mine if it does and you swapped to the 9:1 I have no doubt that you could reach 45mph or maybe a little more if your already doing almost 40.

the smaller gear ratio you go the less lowend your going to have . so going from 11to1 to 9to1 your loosing more lowend. your also stretching out the power the motor puts out. the more you stretch that power out the less chance of you hitting the higher speeds. so that means that if you say put 9to1 gears in, thats doesnt mean that your going to go 60mph. the motor has tp be able to put out enough power to 1 turn those gears, 2 puch the weight of the bike and your weight too. if you want the bike to go faster than 39mph you first have to find out how is the compression on the cylinder. worn out rings and cylinder that has low compression will not make the bike go faster. in fact it will slowly get slower. 2nd are you using a stock variator? the stock variator is a speed limiter. you will not get the full cvt gear ratio with a stock variator. 3rd you need to find out what gears are in the bike. you can check that by counting how many turns the clutch bell makes to 1 tire rotation. the 87 elite either came with 11to1 or 10to1 gears. either one will still be able to get at or above 45mph on a stock engine setup with a aftermarket variator and a motor that has good compression. same theory geos for the 94-01 elite 50(dio motor) bikes

hey these are some really nice prices... but this kit looks water cooled. Is yours water cooled? The water pump and radiator look expensive as *, not really something i want to get into right now. also how was your shipping time and price? If I don't get the kit here I may get an exhaust. I wanted to get my exhaust intake and carb from VT cycles since they hooked me up phat last time, but they haven't been answering the phone and I have called during store hours in Hawaii time.

The picture does not reflect the kit you get. It is a standard corsa. The shipping was surprising fast considerIng it came from another country. I think it took less than a week. Shipping cost was around $25. Good experience overall!!! Can gO wrong with a Corsa!!!
