Thanks much! I have a few updates, stripped er' down to the frame and started disassembly of the engine. I have decided to keep it bare framed with just pegs or something for my feet, time will tell. I have to find a new front fork. As of now I guess I'm just planning on taking the engine completely apart and building it up unless anybody has ideas for a "better" engine I can build on a budget. The crankcase is full of debris from the rings, piston.

AF05E in all its glory!

Do these ports look normal? Ive never seen any before but they look pretty rough to me.

Whats left of the old piston and rings.

Last but not least, can anybody see the cracks around the bearing? Is this normal with the casting or are they stress cracks? This is around the starter gear.

The af16 engine will give you many more options for gears, pipes, cranks, bigger bores. It does cost more to get a good af16 block though. When positioning your pegs, keep the balance in mind. The se50 has a light nose and tends to pull wheelies without demand. The more forward your pegs are, the more control you will have over this. Forward pegs also allow you to use more effective front pressure when cornering.

The case inlet ports are normal, they spend minimal time removing casting 'flash' in the factory (thus the rough looking deburring effort around the port walls). The 'cracks' around that bushing are not cracks but surface expansion flaws from the casting mould (they're only a cosmetic thing). If you give the engine a good clean you'll find these all over the place. Well, it's in pieces now - why not have a go at tidying up those ugly ports?

^what he said. And don't do it with the case and crank assembled either, it will end in tears. Take the bottom end of the engine apart and take your time when cleaning up the ports. You can always remove metal from the casting, but you can't put it back if you get over enthusiastic...Good luck! :thumbwink:

Thanks, right now im working on removing the flywheel. Its stuck pretty good. I will be splitting the cases to check for debris. I wont be removing much from the ports, just enough to smooth em out. What dremel bit should i use?

Thanks much!

Thanks! I just split the case. How do I get the crank out? (hit it with a hammer???) I'm guessing its pressed on the tranny side bearing. While its apart should I get new bearings?

Thanks!

I looked thru wiki but couldn't find anything on the crank. I guess I'll be ordering one of those tusk tools for reassembly.
