but that still wasnt low enough for me so i stripped the forks and chopped an inch or so off the springs



guess i got carried away with the grinder as i now have around 20mm travel

Motorbike said it best. The ride will completely change( in a bad way), so obviously just know what your getting into and forget about hammering the twisties.
But with that being said, if in fact you are looking for a more show than go theme, then a mild stretch and fork swap might be the best option. There's plenty of info on this site alone about both, just search the wiki and build threads.
The pics you supplied are decent examples, but maybe a touch too low... The 2nd spree and 2nd elite e look to have zero travel in the front which is asking for trouble. In fact the elite e looks to have no shock on at all.
If money is no issue then look for a sym dd50 front end, and a sweet stretched motor mount from graphite9.

po5bmx: what fork setup is that? props on the machining to make it work!

here is my aero in progress. im leaning toward a metro or dd50 fork swap, but for now i just raised my upper shock mounts 1".
