vette76 wrote:ok noise, you said volume would have to be 100-150 cc. how would you measure this? if you can tell me i will probably make one. also, what would happen if i filed out the intake a bit? thanks. what do u mean by the fitting would have to be .5 the size of the narrowest point of the carb? half the size?
I wouldn't measure it, I'd calculate it. Assuming you're using a capped round pipe, volume in CC (cubic centimeters) is:
volume = length X ( 3.14 X Radius) ^ 2
I haven't bolted up the modified intake yet to try; there's 6" of snow on the ground here. The idea is to even the transition from the end of the carb to the reed valve. There's a secondary restriction b/t the carb and the reed valve which should be smoothed out. This type of restriction is always bad (vs. filing out the carb's narrowest point, which is a bad idea.) Just be careful not to run through the wall. I did this on a spare, I'll try it this spring. Let us know how it works.
ok i tried the filed intake. AND IT GIVES SO MUCH LOW END TORQUE ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY!!! i have not tried it for high end becaue there is 6 inches of snow here. i havent even put on the boost bottle yet!!! im so excited. i suggest everyone DO THIS!!. LOL.

It worked well then! Good, I look forward to trying it out this spring.
ok now the spree has no power. fixed the clutch. any ideas before i pull the intake off? wont really work with any carb setting. no boost bottle but i plugged the fitting.
good seal and gets gas. it just bogs. it seemed like it had power before because it had a hole in the side of the intake so it was like the throttle was turned. once you covered the hole it ran like crap.
ok i put the original intake on. it did the same thing. all of a sudden the bike just cuts out and is hard to start. it seems like most of the time it does it is when i am leaning to make a turn. also sometimes when you rev the throttle it will rev up and cut out. any ideas?
im on the verge of throwing it off my roof, if i can find a way to get it up there. (any ideas on that?lol)
Go to tech docs, read about "plug chops." Inspect your plug. Something else is going wrong with your Spree.
Anytime you make an engine mod (like the boost bottle) you should do a plug chop with a new plug to make sure you're not leaning out the mixture. Rich is OK, but should be addressed somehow (smaller jets, lean out idle mixture.)
