Gonna have to try that Castro 927.
Quick question though about oil.
The service manual recommends 10W-40 for the final reduction. Is this what I should be using, or something else?

For the final drive gears use what is specified, those Honda dudes are pretty smart dudes and they picked that viscocity for a reason

The only thing I would change would be to add a little bit of the Lucas oil stabilizer in there. It really keeps those gears quiet and smooth

Right now I'm dealing with a bit of smoking from the tailpipe. Oil level is correct. Can't recall off hand what brand of 2 stroke oil I tossed in it to get it going. Just some cheap stuff. After sitting 15 years and no knowledge of how it was treated in the past, it's a guessing game of whether it's just a junk oil brand, or if there are other underlying problems with the engine. I was riding it yesterday and noticed it seemed to bog down a bit and cut out when I went WOT, then I took it back some and did a slow acceleration of the throttle and it was fine. Tried another WOT at about 15 mph and it didn't seem to have any problem. Let my daughter try and she went WOT from the start and totally out accelerated me on the TaoTao I was on... but then, me weighing about 200lbs more then her skinny posterior probably has alot to do with it.

When we switched and I went back to the Spree, she beat me again. I'm eyeing a 48mm bore kit from chopchop*123 on eBay for it when I do the engine rebuild.... then I'll show her "WUZ UP"

It's just a stock 86' Iowa Spree. Still need to drill out the exhaust.

Baking the pipe in fire or BBQ might help some. There may also be excessive carbon and oil buildup in the exhaust causing the smoke or there could be some oil left in the bottom of the crankcase from sitting and some oil leaking through the pump. When you drill the washer out I bet the acceleration will be much much better
