Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

Not sure but a fellow on ebay is selling one and made this statement.
Wonder if there is any real truth to it?

The se50 was the ONLY scooter to ever have this body style, engine, and stock paint color. The SE50 was only made in 1987, thats it. This moped is the only moped with this engine other than the aero 50. The 87 se50 can get hp parts, and is capable of speeds over 60 mph properly tuned. The real special part about this scooter is the fact that it is mechanicly speed limited UNLIKE every other scooter on the market today. Scooters built after this one were electronicly speed limited and are difficult or impossible to make run faster than 35mph no matter what you do. The 1987 SE50 has 3 items from the factory that restrict speed down from 60mph to 35mph that are simple to by-pass and will cost you nothing.

Completely false. With the restrictions on the motor it will only run 25, without it will run 35(i think). There are few performance parts for an 87 as well. My uneducated guess on top speed for one is around 45. The 94-01 elites are the ones that have many performance parts available.

jstone is pretty much right, the se50's top speed was 38 mph from the factory. the variator can be up graded, and you can get a 63 cc cylinder kit word on the street is that these mods get you near 45 mph. but as of right now, there are no gears for it which is where real speed comes from.

So I got a new belt on, and it runs again now. In fact, it's getting up to at least 25 now, probably faster just based on wind (speedo cable didn't come in yet). The problem now is, it takes forever to get from zero to about 10 mph, with a low tone, then the tone changes to the familiar "WHEEE" and it takes off all the way to normal speed. Ideas? It does this with 2 different carbs that both work fine on my other bike.

Grind out the intake tube, adds a good 25%to your acceleration and gives better power all around.
