Greetings:
Great job and good pics, TVR. Not only the painstaking work to adapt this beast into the Spree, but overall effect is clean, nearly stock-looking. I particularly appreciate the Power Bulge in the side plastic for the carb. Well done.

Thanks, It was a lot of work to pull off cleanly. I guess I could have taken the easy route and just cut out the plastics.

With some tuning you can get decent performance out of a CH80. My daily commuter CH80 responded really well to rollers, intake and jetting. Had the same problem finding an aftermarket exhaust so still have the stock pipe and header. I know its frowned upon in these circles but a simple blue CDI really unleashed my CH80(and BBK AF16).
Excellent work and great looking Spree.

Care to share the specs of your setup?

How much of the ch80 was "unleashed" after the cdi? Did you test before and after?? Ch80's are tough to get reliable performance out of, so small findings like this, if in fact it does improve performance, are crucial for our ch80 crowd. I feel like I should start a thread soon for ch80 modifications and results

I completely agree. Looks super clean.

I actually bought and installed a "new racing cdi" and performance coil recently. I didn't notice anything different, except it smoothed out a tiny misfire at idle. But maybe any brand new cdi or coil to replace the original 30 year old electronics could have cured that. Someday if I really mod out the ch80 it might become useful, they say it has no rev limit.

I have no idea what building that is, it's a few blocks down from burnside skate park. I wanted to get inside the fence but decided it wasn't worth getting hassled for trespassing.

I live farther east, deep into Gresham.

I made foot rest pegs, holding my legs together on a small spree floorboard gets uncomfortable on long rides.
Since the swap I've put over
1000 miles on it!

The riding season here is kinda short, gotta take advantage of the dry days.

Wow I was thinking of doing that with my aero 80 last week but decided not to with out having gotten another variator to try it with looks like you did the same thing so smart

The moped guys do that to the Honda hobbit pa50 variator but what they do is actually cut the wall out completely at the end of each ramp.
http://outofcontrolmopeds.blogspot.ca/2 ... ching.html I wonder if you could save that variator doing that, because you could polish each ramp smooth so the rollers won't catch and cause your flat spot in the acceleration.

I thought about cutting out the end of the ramp, but figured it might be too much. It was experimental, now I'm thinking about modding a variator from a dio or gy6 to fit my ch80. But it's a gamble, could be a waste of my time and money.
