I also have a spare engine for parts .
I thought I might be able to switch blocks ?
Bad idea ... what is all that stuff ?
What part of the case broke? I've heard they have a weakness at the pivot mount fin, but never seen one broken.

Dig how that right axle shaft slides into a well in the crank. Crank spins around the axle, planetary trans gears spins at a different rates... It's a dizzy world inside the case

You are correct Pivot point fin.
It looks like pot metal but Ive been told it's aluminum so next step take it apart and go to another welder .
Again I don't blame the seller I am sure he never even knew . And after seeing inside to change the engine is the last resort.

66Six - Thanks for the pics, great detail on the break
Interesting part of US Gyro history is Honda recognized there was a problem, but didn't get it bulletproof. Sorry you got a broken mount...
NN50 vs TG50 case comparison shows how they added webbing for the 85/86 TG50's.

This might sound really dumb ... But it is 2011 I wonder if there is any type of glue or super futuristic stronger than steel fancy shmancy shmutz I could put on there ?
Who knows someday they might put a man on the moon ?
It could happen .
Heres another one I was thinking drill 2 holes tap them then take a plate and bolt from one side to the other of the crack , also I was going to ask the next welder if he could also weld a piece of plate across the crack ?
Also after takeing another look at the photo I wonder if the bolt going across is what caused the crack by being overtightened it just dosent look like a stress crack ... but what do I know (scratching head ) n

IDK,
I'd be tempted to salvage hard to get parts trans/low speed clutch/cyl/stator, sell the crank, and watch for a fixer Gyro needing the same...

New Project :
(try to) Build a engine cover ...
1. Cut metal to size
2. Cover engine cover w/masking tape
3. Mark bends and curves
4. Remove tape and put on metal
5. Make a paper cover to see size & fit
6. Cut metal
7. Start making cuts
8. Make bends
9. Compare size on real cover
10. More bends
11. Check size on fender

.....give you 4 thumbs on this one, SIX.....very snazzy......chrome would be SOOOOOO different...paint is the obvious low-budget choice....this mesh is spot-on for the application.....good luck with the finish....ps-keep it simple at the front where the screw holds it down, maybe it doesn't need that difficult indention...just sayin'................

Mousewheels I have already stripped one gyro for parts and it was a hard decision to make .
But that one the seller used a impact wrench to put the head on and went right through the block ,it was a mess but I needed the stator for a transplant so it was worth stripping it ,to save anothers life .
but for a little itsey bitsy teenie tiny crack in the engine ... what do you think of getting it welded ?
Do you really want to see another GYRO off the road ?
Lets save this gyros life and keep it on the road .
Whata ya say ...

I never like to see a Gyro off the road. I'm up for repairs, and you've fixed up a bunch, going many an extra mile to fill in the void for hard to get parts. Get it welded if you want. I am wanting that to be a certified welder, with plenty of experience with whatever AL alloy Honda uses in their cases. That person will have a good repair process and recommendations.

There's a bunch of key parts if broken only another Gyro being stripped will fix. My opinion is if you salvage hard to get parts - (stator, crank, cyl, trans and clutches. straight axles). Sooner (Who finds more Gyro's needing fixing than you?) or later you will find a Gyro engine or low cost fixer that only needs one of those parts. Your's will be fixed and back to OEM. Parts you sell will help a bunch of others keep theirs on the road.
Overall cost to you after selling parts is likely lower, there's no worries over the weld down the road when you sell it. Plus no weld vs welded case protect's it's value.
End of the day, it's an opinion to discuss among Gyro friends.

Back to the engine cover ...DONE almost kinda .
Big burst of energy ... Just wanted to finish it .
1. Cut & grind to fit
2. Paint cover satin black it was almost going to be gray.But w/ muffler trim I thought it would be too much .
3. Tried some 600 grit wet sand paper to try to smooth out fender.(actually worked )
4. Painted fender w/ the Duplicolor vinyl paint Flat Black /worked great .
5. * around w/ cover mounting ,ended-up using bailing wire to attach it .( I wanted to ride tonight .)
6. Also made some spacers to allow for the wider tires . (it's close but No rubbing )

Also take a close look at the first pic and try to guess what the hose at the rear of the carb cover does ?
