Best I EVER got out of mine before I dumped it (sold) was 38 with a BBK and gears and 100 jet. Very slow take off. The smallest hill would set you back 5 mph. A big hill just get off and push.

I just rode it again today, my speedometer reads 39 on flat ground. There was a good wind behind me though. Plus I only weigh 155lbs. I plan on running it with a gps here as soon as I find mine. It is all stock, at least I think. I bought it off of a friend for $180 so I dont think he put anything into it since he sold it to me that cheap. On flat ground I do well, especially with wind behind me, but hills kill me. I wish I could figure out how to toss a variator on there without buying a different engine.

Ummm. More like Edgar Winter Group.
My brother got my stock 84 to 37 ON THE SPREEDOMETER (and I'm sure it's wrong). This was a 3000 mile scoot that just got pulled out of a shed and got it going a few days before. All stock, except it had an exhaust leak due to the gasket at the muffler flange being gone. Fixing that took it down to 35 on the spreedo. Guess leaner really IS meaner, LOL. He's lighter than me but I can get it to touch 35 on a good day.

Wasn't there a gearing difference between 84-87? Does this explain some of the differences?

Pics of said engine or it never happened. (spreedometer too)

I took some pics today but they are kind of blurry, but I will try to put them on here. Like I said, I havent taken it out with the gps yet so I dont know about the exact mph, but that is what the speedo said.

My spreedometer would point at the words "high beam" when running 42.6mph. It means absolutely nothing unless you put a bigger front tire on it. Even then, the speedometer may be the worst piece of engineering on the entire spree. Horribly optimistic at best.

I could claim this is 50. But I don't.
Down hills I could go "turn"mph. Pegged it a few times.
Still think you went 39?

Greetings:
SHeesh, what a bunch of Doubters! The dude said his scooter had a good day, ran 4-5 MPH better - indicated - than its previous best. Let it go already!
Anyone can have a Good Scooter Day. Cool, dry air can make for better-than-average performance. I had a Skiroule RTX 340 that ran 62 MPH on its best day.

One starry night, with the mercury at -32 F, my girlfriend and I mounted up leaving the local watering hole and headed across the frozen lake. The speedo hit 74 - and that was 2-up. It never happened again, but I swear by all that is Holy it happened that night.
Anyway, I for one believe you, Dawg. A stout tailwind can drop the drag considerably, and it's not hard to believe the NQ bought itself an extra 20%'s RPM. One caveat; a lean mixture can liven up performance too, just before the top end grenades. have a look at the exhaust gasket seal, and anywhere else a puff of air might be getting in.

Too true, kind Wheelperson. The bike could have beed modded by a P.O., or could be leaned out. I admittedly ran me spree on the hotter side of the spectrum, and would occasionally start to melt the cooling plastics after 15 or 20 minutes of WOT. I'll take pics. It's kinda funny. I put 5000+ miles on it this way, and my rings held up, the jug is still cross-hatched below the ring line, and no major scoring.

I have repetitively told you guys that that was just the speedometer, not gps, so get off my back. Thankyou wheelperson. As soon as I find my gps, I will post an update with pics, but being new to the forum, I still haven't figured out how to post pics adequately yet.

I think you are reading into wheelman's post what you want to hear and not what he really said. I do not think he believes the 20% increase in RPM because his experience tells him that it just is not gonna happen especially with just the airbox off and no rejet.

Tailwind, lean-running engine, and really good luck - Hey it could happen to anyone!
