These are just some of my photos - there were numerous other cameras littered around plus the guy on the mini-moto had a helmet cam. Hoping to grab the video off him this week and put it up here.

The race was held on Ohakea Air Force Base, sadly it's defence employees only - something about insurance blah blah blah.

A bit of background - the guys on the odds and ends scooter had recieved it off a previous owner who couldn't get the rear axle nut off. So he hack sawed through the locking portion of the nut and into the axle as well. When these lads then tried putting on a new nut, they tried to make up for this by using metalset to reinforce the damaged piece of the axle.

Well the metalset didn't give up, but the axle DID; splitting all the way down the threaded potion.

Hence, their wheel decided it was time to part ways with the scoot after close to 6 hours of stress on one poor wee axle.


On a side note, we were quite lucky that our front brake overheated in the first 10min of racing, it mean't that we held corner speed saving our worn clutch from giving up the ghost early on - the one in the picture was our spare one BTW


There's a few videos on youtube at the moment of some of the older mopedathons, the 2010 version being similar to the one we raced around.

Nice! Considering what you were racing with, that's a pretty good outcome.

Those endurance races are hard on cobbled-together stuff... they're put on precisely to show who's prepared, and who just has a fast bike waiting to blow up.
