If moisture is your problem this will often save it, a neat trick I learned a while back.

1. Pre-heat toaster oven (not microwave) to 200° F max, and bake CDI for 2 hours.

2. When finished baking, drop CDI (while hot) into coffee can filled with enough WD-40 to completely cover CDI. (Gallon cans of WD-40 available at Home Depot and Lowe's.)

3. Let sit in WD-40 until cool (about 15 minutes).

Reason for WD-40 is it's ability to drive out moisture which is #1 reason why CDI packs fail.
2 reasons for baking:
1.) Drives out moisture.
2.) Heating causes everything to expand allowing WD-40 to 'suck in' to areas as CDI cools (contracts).

i might try that out. i just want to find a source first. so if i totally f*** mine i have a place to buy a new one.

I'm sure I could get our shop to order one and I can just ship it to you personally, if you don't find a more local source

Next time your in your shop can you look up the price on it?

I found a few online. The only one i found with the same plugs was like $130-something

Im not sure if i posted this before or not. But i only paid $150 for the entire bike.

Hmm that *is* diferent! maybe all ZX50's are not alike?

A downloaded manual for the Super9, but manual identifies models as ZX50/Scout 50. It showed a very Honda like CDI, regulator and starter relay. (The below pic is a slight mod to the manual, the CDI pic was moved up to show along with the 'Kymco header'.



I searched for some other Kymco CDI info, and found some ATV's in the 50-80cc range used one that had 6 wires like yours. If yours CDI is identical, there was there's a rev limiter wire that can be clipped.

-- BTW have been including Kymco in my local sccoter shopping. So far have found a couple used ZX50's and 2 cycle Peoples, but at prices 1k to 1.5k.

I've got a couple of CDIs for JDM Dios. One has two plugs (for ZX Dio), and the other has one plug for SR models. Let me know which one you need, and I can probably sell it to you very cheap.

yeah actually note the wire loom connectors, if they are disconnected a regular honda type cdi should fit them by looks of it

Seem to work good, for about 2-3 miles. then this happened....

that greenish bluish wire on the top of the picture of the cdi, is it bare and uninsulated? could be touching something and grounding out?

Looks like some sort of ghetto rig. I bet the CDI has a loose connection inside that is very sensitive to moisture(seeing as you live within minutes of lake Michigan).

yeah, i normally have it taped up. i just untapped it for the oven.

nice dac! way to get s*** done.

that is not too shabby! came out real nice, all's left is paint match rims ftw
