Pretty sure with my old setup I ran a 42/122 combo.

More errands tonight, another half-hour of run time. Approaching 3 hours. RPM seldom exceeded 7400, and speeds up to 45 using 52/125 jets in the OKO 24. Still won't take full throttle, just loses power and slows a bit. Sure burbles a lot in the midrange, but can "adjust" with throttle hand. Ordered up a 50 - 48 - 45 Pilots. My temp gauge did creep above 300 or so briefly once or twice, during application of 3/4 or more throttle. That's why I don't want to drop the Main too much more.

I decided the variator was too heavily loaded even for the low-end Hot Surfaces exhaust. Dropped down to 30 grams (Stock Kymco spring) to see if I could touch 8K RPM for the next half-hour of run time.

Came within a whisker of scooter-slaying a suicidal squirrel. Reminded me of the time I ran over an adult raccoon with my XS-750 Triple, but now I'm dating myself.*

Greetings:

The needle is in the middle to ballpark this very rich jet in. Do you think I should drop it? I'm so afraid of a heat spike off-throttle, twice bitten. :nervous:

put the clip 1 up from middle .that should clear up the burble when you first get on the throttle. that will not cause heat spikes on off throttle. the too small pilot will.

Greetings:

The leaner needle idea is very likely to work. I am debating whether to do that or to drop the MJ from 125 to 122. (or do both?!)

It still loses torque and power at WOT, revs drop from 7600 to 7100. However, holding WOT I saw the gauge touch 325-350, dropping quickly to 250 when I let off. I know the Pilot may be way big at 52. Perhaps I should drop that to 50 or 48 before I go any smaller on the Main?

Meanwhile, I'll try leaning the needle as you suggest and report. Thanks Bak!

You have to watch the air temp and berometer reading too. yeah try the 125 main first. leave the pilot at 52 but move that clip 1 leaner.the needle clip 1 leaner will help clear that lower throttle position burble.

Greetings:

As you predicted, dropping a whopping half-mm nearly completely cleared Flash's phlegmatic throat. It was almost decent in fact, but a little soft on overall power and of course still lost oomph at WOT. It seemed to help that I went to 28g in the variator, which raised the RPMs max from 7600 to 7850. Temps basically unchanged.

Is it possible that a good bit of the mixture at WOT comes from such an oversized Pilot? If so dropping from 52 to 50 first, before downsizing the Main, is a sensible choice? When the jets arrive next week, that's the current plan.

What is the highest rpm does your engine reach right now with the setup you have?

Greetings:

7860, due to light-ish Kymco stock spring on ZX pulley facing 29g in the vario. I'll have to go with a couple of 3s or get a stronger spring.

That's a bit low on the rpm. Does the engine as it revs up as your getting up to speed, drop in rpm a little or stay constant?

29grams in the variator?

what weight combo is that?

It would seem to me if you weights were that light, that your are-pee-em's would be higher than 7860. :?

Greetings:

RPMs are low due to light-ish Kymco ZX stock spring. weights are 3x5.4g + 3x4g. Evidently a couple of these weights went back for seconds at Stuckey's, but 29's the total on my scale. :) The variator keeps revs pretty tight between 7K at light throttle, lets it go up smoothly to 7800-ish when I open 'er up. Beyond 3/4 throttle or so, it loses torque and RPMs drop again because the power decreases, no doubt due to overly-rich jetting.

Really, it's running acceptably well thanks to Baka-san's suggestion to drop the needle a click, but still lacks full white-hot power. I'll decide whether to juggle jets some more with the Don't Touch pipe or just swap sooner to the PG Long and experiment with that exhaust. I'm not positive, but it seems likely that jetting needs to be revisited every time a pipe changes. I wonder if it needs to be revisited whenever you change the variator load too, since fuel demand is flow-dependent.

Pilot 52 -> 50: Much Better

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

A 50 Pilot replaced the 52 and it's much better. I'll ride awhile and see what the plug says.

Main remains 125. Needle 1 click lean of center. Has torque now in midrange, top still soft. Temps under 300, mostly.

when you switch back to the pg long both the pilot and main will have to change.plus don't forget the air temp and quality change due to the season changing.

Agreed on the jetting issue. I'll get this one close tonight and suspend tuning to work on Flash 3.2 CORSA for a while.
