Help..............
I have just recently purchased a honda spree, and am hoping someone can help me. The first thing is, how can I tell what year it is? here is the second part. I bought this thing 2 days ago, and it was running fine. I knew it had some water in the gas tank. Since then, I have emptied, and cleaned the gas tank, and have also cleaned the carb. out. It still wont start. If someone could tell me some other common areas to check that would be great, the spark plug is good, and so is the battery. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help..............
Greetings:
A couple questions to try to help:
How did you know about the water in the tank? You said it was running "fine".
Did it run right up until the time you tore into it, or did it fail beforehand?
A good rule of thumb to follow:
If a malfunction follows a repair, then that repair is Probable Cause.
Incorrect carb reassembly is frighteningly easy to do, and would be my first suspicion. But before you remove the carb again, try this:
The big hose from the fuel valve goes to carb bowl. The little one is vacuum, which releases fuel to the carb. Sometiimes it takes a long time cranking before the carb bowl fills enough to start. If the vac line is compromised at all - little cracks or stretched at the nipples, for example - it may fail to release fuel at all.
You can take the vacline end off the manifold and apply negative pressure (OK, suck on it...
) to be sure the carb bowl fills. If the carb assembly is correct, that alone may allow ignition. If it doesn't, check for fuel smell at the plug and/or muffler. If you smell fuel, change the spark plug on principle alone. Even if it "looks" fine.
If none, then take the carb apart again and check for correct engagement of the float needle in the little "claws" of the float.
One of the above should get you going.

To tell what year it is, turn the front wheel to the left, and look on the back of the fork, there should be a sticker that says what year at the top!

Got her running good now boys. it needed some extra kicks to get that fuel in the bowl. Right now im replacing wires like crazy in this jewel. Actually got the electric start to work. Great lirttle toy to work on, having a blast. Need to go put it all together and take her for a run.
