honda sb50 won't start

Post by mrT »

I have an old honda elite from like 1986. I got my carb cleaned, pressure tested, new float, and new autobystarter (cost me only forty bucks), pressure tested the engine which turned out fine, have a spark, fuel is getting to the carb, but it still won't start. i was wondering if it needs an airbox to start. if not what could the problem be?

No air box can cause major problems when starting as it tends to lean the mixture out too much. Have you tried squirting a small amount of gas and oil mix into the carb and tried starting it then? How do you pressure test a carb?

Take a look at the manual, it tells you to test the carb that way, though I've never done it before.

They call it a pressure test when in reality it is a vacuum test. They even label the pump a vacuum pump.

As a great wise man once said "No airboxy--No starty!"

ok i found out that the problem wasn't a missing airbox but a simple problem: a leaf was jammed in my reed valve

just a little carb tuning and it works great, without an airbox.

ALWAYS CHECK UR REED VALVE IF UR SCOOTER DOESN'T START!!!

Better check your plug and see what it looks like. I think you will find it a whitish color.
