Throttle and Air screw directions

I have an Express now, Im wondering on the carb which is similar to a Spree(it is the 81 where it has an automatic choke and throttle controls slide and oil pump)
What is the direction of Lean and Rich on the adjustment screws as in if I have the air screw seated is that most rich or most lean?
My problem is when I set them at the turns the manual calls for it is running at a high idle and the back wheel takes off fast and gets faster. When I seat the air screw and turn it out about 1/4 turn it runs fairly good. The throttle stop screw doesnt make much of a difference when turning. This of course is with the airbox on and all lines hooked up factory. I wonder if my oil pump cable is out of adjustment? The manual isnt really clear on that, but it seems to be smoking quite a bit, so its getting maybe too much oil if anything. So backing out the airscrew is giving me less of what is what Im wanting to know. I probably will give it a good cleaning and see how it acts then. Thanks in advance.
