Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

So far I have bought 2 junk carburetors form ebay for a honda spree I am working on. When I tried to order a new one online I was told it was no longer available. Can someone please let me know if there is something that interchanges? I prefer something new. I am tired of working with junk. I would however like to stick with the electric choke/bystarter.

How do you know they are junk? Are there pieces missing? Have you tried cleaning them? You can get new gaskets, jets , and float valves for them.

Theads stripped. Flanges warped. Bowl pitted. Main jet drilled. Just junk. Bent needle shafts.The crap people are selling on Ebay is already used up. I know how to clean a carb. Even with the parts from both carbs there is not a enough good parts to build a good carb.

try a company named Keyster for rebuild kits.

Stripped threads can be repaired. Jets can be replaced. Don't know which needle shaft you mean, but you've had a really bad run of luck. By the same token, I've bought one carb on eBay and one in this forum and had good luck with both.

You have all heard of ....third time is the charm! Yep bought a 3rd carb off of ebay. It looked like it came fresh off the scooter. Dirty nasty both inside and out. However it was all there and what was there wasn't wore out.

Cleaned it and now the scooter runs fine. I bought the scooter as a basket case and the carb and bystarter were gone so I didn't have anything to work with, besides some of the junk I was unlucky enough to buy off of ebay before getting a good one.

Really?? I just stripped the threads on mine, is there an easier fix then using a tap and die to re-thread it??

You could use coil thread inserts, or through bolts and nuts on the carb side if there's enough room for access to hold the nut.

I just want to add that I found another alternative to Helicoils that I actually prefer for re-tapping into aluminum alloy. They are a German product called "RECOIL". The inserts are solid threads, not spring-like. You drill out the old thread with the appropriate size drill and then screw in the insert, which is self-tapping. Here is a link:

My personal opinion is that the repair is superior to Helicoil.

Only problem is, I have not seen them available in the US. I got mine from Israel via a guy on eBay. His info is:

Bear writes 'Heli-coil'... OK Probably should have written as 'coil thread inserts 'like Heli-coil'. The local auto parts stores and hardware store, have kits in some other name or in bulk bins. Hence I just typed 'coil thread insert'.

I have used Timeserts before, the only real problem was they don't make all of their products in Stainless Steel which does get the job done for me.
