I have my first scooter and its a 87 Elite 50 and I was wondering what oil to use? Do I need to stick to a 2 stroke oil thats used to mix with gas or can I use a 2 stroke injector oil like they use on snowmobiles? I bought it used and the previous owner didnt say which kind.

Only use 2 stroke INJECTOR oil. Do not use oil made to premix with gasoline.

Any 2-Cycle oil should work fine.. 2-Cycle = 2-Stroke it's all the same it will run as long as you use 2-Cycle oil and not normal car oil if you use normal car oil you will blow the motor.

yes you CAN use just any 'ol 2 cycle INJECTOR oil.
but buy the best you can afford or justify.
preferably a brand made for scooters/motorcycles requiring INJECTOR type oil.NOT premix oil
for example- Motul T600

So the half gallon I have left over from my Ski-Doo snowmobile should also be fine?

You have two choices the way I see it. Go with the INJECTOR oil as recommended by me and many other knowledgable people or go with any regular 2 cycle oil recommended by the noobs. Your engine will eventually tell you who was correct. Ahhh decisions decisions.

Your statement seems to tell who is the real arrogant one. When I said knowledgable people I certainly wasn't talking about you.

Your arrogance is in believing that only Honda brews decent 2 stroke oil, injection or otherwise.

Better get better glasses there Bear. I never said only Honda brews the correct oil. I have always stated to NOT use 2 cycle oil made for Chainsaws,Boat motors, Weed Whackers etc. which would be a pre-mix oil. Only use oil stated for Injection type systems. Not just any type 2 cycle oil will do. You have to read the label. Yes your engine will run with the other type oil but it is not good for it, and will cause excess carbon buildup on the piston and exhaust port. Did you ever hear of decarbonizing the cylinder head and piston? Using the wrong type of oil will increase the severity of this carbon and in turn cause engine trouble or failure.

I used the Honda two-stroke oil, because I was at the Honda shop, and they had some there.
