Easy Fix for sun bleached plastics

This may be old news to some people, but it was new news to me and I didn't see it around in the searches.

If your footboard, dash, or light case plastics are sun bleached and have that white powdery look, spray a light coat of WD-40 on them and lightly wipe it in with a rag. It will get rid of that white powdery look and really make the plastics look phenomenal.

I used it on my Aero 50 a few weeks ago and it made a world of difference.

It will smell like WD-40 for a few days, but looks great for a long time. Besides, when your in an open scooter and an 81 Oldsmobile that desperately needs a clean muffler is in front of you at a stoplight, WD-40 is hardly noticeable. :)

Greetings:

Try an automotive plastic trim dressing, like "Back to Black" or the Meguiar's or Mothers' product. They are easier to apply, don't risk eating paint/some plastics, and add U.V. protection to retard further deterioration of the material to which it's applied. Better than WD, but not for freeing stubborn nuts. Like myself, I might add. :)

That product is also news to me. I'll have to check that out.

Whew-we...UV protection...fancy.

Once again, Wheelman is right. uv blocker is what you want, especially for raw plastics ie. floorboard of your aero. here is a pic: http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/8189/uvblock.jpg
this shows Honda's pro stuff and just one example of an automotive product, notice how the label points out the uv blocking.

the best thing to use for plastics is black chrome which was used for those 80's all rubber bumpers that are all gone, or you can go with fusion paint.

What about using good old Armour All? This has the silicone (like WD40) as well as the UV protection.

Anyone else concerned about silicone's impact on the stickers?

Greetings:

I think we're discussing the gray chalky surface that accumulates on the floorboards and inner-side plastics, not the glossy ones. I just use car wax for those.

You were right, I'm starting to see signs that the WD-40 is slightly wearing off on the floorboard. Inner dash still looks great, but it doesn't get as much sun.
It still looks worlds better than it did before.

I'm guess I'm gonna grab some of this "Back to Black".

the "Turtle" brand stuff in the bright green bottle works well too. it is thicker than Armorall and stay on for better absorption.
