Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

Saw this spree (1986) lay in the weeds for 2 years. Went and asked the owner what was up with it ?? He said it quit running on him and parked it, said if I wanted it I could have it, just haul it off. only problem is he can't find the key !!

Does anyone know how to get a key for it ???

Do I go through a Honda dealer ??

yep thats what i would do and hoe awesome is it to get something free!! hope it runs and pay alot of attention t o these pages as they will hepl if it doesnt, i got to scoots free 86 spree and 82 fa50, o btw welcome to the forum.

new key is VERY easy to get for a spree and only costs 5bucks or so

take off front plastics, may need to remove legshield and there is 1 bolt and 1 cap nut holding the ignition assembly one, remove and take to honda dealer. tell em u got it as gift and i doubt they'll hassle u

Actually you can phone it in. The backside of the switch has an engraved code. A letter and two numbers are what the Dealer needs to know. I had to remove my switch from the bracket to see it. Anyway you can just tell them the code.

I saw what the Parts department does. They have a tool that looks like an elaborate can-opener. If they have the correct blank in stock, they lock the key down, punch up the code and press a lever. Presto! new key.

They charged me under $10.

I got a question about getting some keys made for my 88 and 01 SA50 Elites. I bought the blank keys from a online honda dealer. Now can i just take my working keys into any place that makes keys and they can use the good key to make duplicates on the blanks?

I had to go to a real locksmith shop to get a blank and have it cut. The kind that has been there as long as the town and the guy can reproduce laser cut keys by hand.

I assume this would work, but a little more expensive
