fuel valve removal

Post by Nosfy »

Hello,

Let me introduce myself. I'm Pieter and I live in Belgium.
A few days ago I became the proud owner of a Honda ND50 Melody (AB07). It was stalled in a shet and hadn't run for a year...

I looked for some information on the internet and the best source for info is definitly this forum. I know, my Melody is not a spree but it's family ;)

The Melody wil not start. So I checked the fuel, the spark plug, battery... all ok. The carb is not getting any fuel so i suspect the fuel valve. I tried using my lungs to create a vacuum, but no fuel came out. When I losen the bolt that hold the valve to the fueltank, the fuel comes out (pretty normal h├â┬®) so the tank is not blocked.

So I tried to remove the fuel valve but... it's attached with the fueltank by a little iron stick. How do I remove this ? I attached some pictures.

Thanks for your answers !

Wow, that's a new one.

The Melody is related to the Spree... preceded it by a bit. The US market '83-84 Aero 50 is probably the most similar model to what you have, the manual's posted in tech docs. Petcock does not show the rod for the Aero, though

Is there a third wire or hose that's fitting to that? It almost looks like the fuel sender is attached to the petcock. Did you try looking inside the tank for a fastener?

Since I can't figure out how you'd disconnect that, what I would do is try to clean it in place. Get a small jar (.5L) and fill it with fresh gas, then immerse the entire valve in it, in place, with the hoses disconnected. This fills the vacuum and fuel side with fresh gas. Then wait a few days. I did this to mine to get it to unstick. Trick will be to prop up the jar without dumping it over.

Let us know if that works.

There's no third wire or hose and I don't think the fuel sender is attached.
