AHHH HELP! Starter, piston, or battery?

hey all, i think i have a big problem here, i got my valve needle (finally) and put it in and it ran great, then after a little bit, fuel came out the carb again... so i took it apart to see that my float assembly had fallen into the bowl because the screw was too loose..
then i put it back together, and tried to start it.... nothing happened at all.
then i tried to jump it with a car.. nothing.
then i tried hooking up the battery charger and jumping it from that, well, the crank (i think,) turns half way, slowly, then stops, then turns halfway slowly, then stops, its going in pulses, but really slow... is my starter fried? or do i have a problem with my piston?

thanks

ok, 10 minute update, the battery has been charging for like 10 minutes, i just went out there to try and start it again, and it spins regularly, phew, only. it will spin for like 5 seconds, the click and make a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz noise, like it does if you have the throttle open before you start it.

it was really weird, it seemed that my battery had instantly died.... it wouldnt get jumped or anything... so i just let it charge for a bit and it seemed to fire right back up...

You ran the battery down trying to start the Spree with an empty carb bowl and had to recharge.

The second problem I think has to do with starter wiring. The dead Spree I'm resurrecting does this during compression check, where it will compress up to 110 PSI (the bore turned out to be fine) and then the starter will "let go" and zzzzingggg! I believe it's bad grounds causing this, but need to check it out.
