Hey Everybody!!
new forum user here
just picked up a 1985 spree (electric start only) $315.00
its in real good shape
just flushed gas and oil tanks, bleeded the fuel and oil system, i just bought a brand new battery from honda for it, lights work, blinkers work, hort works, tail lights work, brake lights work.............everything is fine EXCEPT>>>>
it doesnt start....
what would you all suggest i do now.....
i have the downloaded shop manual...i think its the starter itself or the starter relay
can u advise me on how and what to check for

check to make sure eng is free. starter relay click? power to starter?

o, a lot of new scoot owners dont kno this. the brake has to be applied to activate the starter. (kinda a safty feature)

put on the breaks, engine turns right over.........now i just have to put it all back together again

lol, I didn't know about the brake once I fixed my spree either and manually pressed the starter relay to get her going..
gave me a nice little shock everytime.

now that vette 76 helped me get the engine going, its not really starting. will run about 5 seconds, smoking like a chimminy and then dies
whats the best thing to check now???
again, any help is much needed!!!!!

well the smokeing part might be caused by the wrong type of oil ask myspree about that. marine oil will mess every thing up. only Injector type by honda.

yea i got that, i am using honda 2 stroke injector oil, so thats ok.....anyother suggestions. i have electric start only........is there a proper way to start this???? throttle open or closed or half way........i dont see a choke so it must do this automaticly.......??

when i went to auto-zone they told me i needed injector oil and they gave me marine oil and said it work fine????its blue in color. where do i get injector oil?

go to any honda shop and ask.......there is a big difference between 2 stroke oil and 2 stroke injector oil............injector oil flows better........2 stroke oil is meant to be mixed in gas directly......it will now flow as welll

some thing could be rong with your oil pump and it could be geting tooo much

if the bike has been sitting a while, the crankcase likes to fill with oil. this causes hard starting and lots of smoke. i kno mine did. it should eventually clear itself out. but dont use marine 2stroke oil. use injector 2stroke oil. as for the starting issue, do u have a filter/airbox in place? these bikes need them to run correctly.
