At least the horn works!

Post by gulfstorm »

Hey spree fans!

I posted a few weeks ago when I first got my spree and was amazed at the great condition that it was in. Since then I drained the oil and replaced, drained gas and replaced, took carb off and gave it a good clean, got a new battery, spark plug. Having done all of that in the last couple of weeks I tried....and tried to get it to start today in the freezing canadian winter which i suspect may be contributing to my problems .. -5 it was....grrr). No luck. the starter motor turns nicely on a new battery, spark is present ( i checked by taking the plug out and grounding one end), fuel is being pumped into the carb (lines are full of gasoline). Where do I go from here. I tried using the kick start but oddly enough it would crank down but not recoil back without me doing it manually with my foot and bringing it back into neutral position (is it siezed i wonder). ahhh... I also found out that my blinkers dont work but stay on continueously and headlight is out. ...OH but on the bright side the horn works. LOL. Looking for your comments!

Cheers guys,

GulfStorm.

the turn lites maybe just the blinker relay bad, headlite will not light up until it starts, cold has a little effect but should still fire up. o do you have tail lites? and by chance are you pulling the left brake handle when you use the electric starter?

If you havent done so, already clean out the carb. There is info on this in the tech docs or just search "how to clean the carb".

As for the kickstarter not retracting, it is possible that the half moon gear may be stripped. Or the spring inside the cover is not properly installed. This doesn't mean your engine is seized.

Have you done a compression test yet? Remember it takes 3 things for your engine to fire up. Compression/Air, spark, and fuel.
