Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

So I made an impulse buy at an estate auction a few nights ago. I found this 87 Honda TRX200SX 4 wheeler. Came with flat track back tires which suck on almost any terrain except grass and loose dirt. Gas tank had half an inch (literally) of sand in it, carb bowl was infested, so I cleaned the entire fuel system, turned everything on, gave the recoil a few rips and away she went.

It's just a semi-automatic 5 speed with reverse, 200cc, 4 stroke, but for what I paid for it(not going to disclose the exact amount, but let's just say I've paid more for broken mopeds) I can't complain. I was on it all day today and shot this picture on top of the hill by my house where some old mine shafts are.



It needs the rear plastic replaced, it's there but beat up. Neither tires match on the front and the rims are bent.

Again, I could care less. It runs and rides. Smokes a bit, but not much. This should be a fun project, at least I can ride this one and work on it when I feel like it.

Oh yeah, those are motorcycle soft saddle bags hanging from the steering stem. I carry a few wrenches, a quart of oil, cheap flashlight and occasionally a pint of Jack Daniels or Peppermint Schnapps in it. LOL

That there is a ice fishing rig, bet ya ride down to the river will bring in some cash.

I don't ice fish. Let alone, I won't go out on the ice with my own two feet (over a large field of shallow standing water is hella fun) but if it's more than 12 inches deep I don't trust it. I lost a snowmobile to the Saginaw River and I'll be damned if I lose my little 4 wheeler to it.

I was doing 35-ish down the river on a Yamaha SL292 SnowJet and next thing I know there's a crack racing in front of me, then I was sinking in freezing water.

Now, granted I watched a video on youtube where this dude took what looked to be a stock sled across open water in the summer time, but I'm no daredevil. Good thing it was a free machine.

Those guys "snowmobiling" across open water are doing it on today's totally insane sleds with well north of 100HP and a good running start. They have enough momentum to plane up on their skis and the power to maintain it, at least on smooth water. A Sno-Jet 292 (I've ridden them when they were new!) would not be a good choice to try this, lessen' you be wearing Scuba gear.

Watercross has greatly increased its popularity with the modern mountain sleds but they are not necessary. The long track and long paddles make it easier to enter the water at a slower speed and stay on top. The weakest sled I have run on open water was a 1991 Indy Trail Classic 500 (70 hp 121" track .75" lugs). The worse the sled, the more entry speed required, thats all. 35mph would have been fine for a modern mountain sled though.

The 200sx has the same motor as the atc200, right?

Yes it's the same engine. I was ripping up the trails last night and I thank the heavens I still hadn't sold all the bits to my ATC200 motor I had for a go kart, because I sheared the carrier bolts (all but 2 of 4) off, chain got dangerously loose, and now there isn't much left on my sprocket for teeth.

Mine shafts huh? I love exploring old abandoned towns, buildings, cemeteries....pretty much anything old and abandoned! Michigan has hundreds and hundreds of ghost towns but most are re-claimed by mother nature and nothing remains

There's one spot down where I was that the township has fenced off. It's just a flat area, but if you throw a tire over the fence, it's gone in 2 weeks or so. It's a big sinkhole where one of the entryways are. Pretty creepy. Don't ask how they got it in without disturbing the fence, but there was a good size fiberglass boat in there.

They closed it off for that reason, people throw s*** down there. My grandpa told me when he was my age and that was open (not operational, but you could see down the mines) that he would throw junk cars down there. I guess if the town dug it up, there's a few short school buses down there too...

Yeah. *, those things are like a mile deep and most go under residential areas. They'd have to move the houses to dig, would cost more than it's worth.
