Stock 1986 SPREE>>Doesn't start =(

1. Carbs has been soaked and cleaned. Checked all jets, etc.
2. Airbox cleaned and installed new OEM filter.
3. Checked for good spark. Installed new plug anyways.
4. Checked for fuel to carb. Petcock works.
5. Checked compression. Good.
6. New battery. Cranks, but no start.
7. Muffler doesn't seem plugged.

When I spray starter fluid into the carb or spark plug hole, the engine comes to life until it runs out of starter fluid.

It last ran over 1 year ago. I'm guessing bad gas. I haven't dumped the old gas and replaced it with fresh gas, but before I do that I just wanted to get a second opinion from the forum.

clean the carb again, clean/drain the fuel tank use fresh fuel.

I'll bet that luelok is right on the money.

Clean that carb.

If problem persists check to see if there is gas getting to the carb. You can do that by unscrewing the carb drain screw on the float bowl.

Drain all the old fuel and clean everything the old fuel came into contact with before doing anything else.

Blow out the carb with compressed air after cleaning/carb dip focusing on the tiny little holes in there.

Dont use starter fluid unless you wanna replace the rings in the near future...

Brought the carb to Honda. Had my friend clean it out. He said I did a great job since he didn't notice any gunk after he cleaned it. He's not sure why it's not running. 2 strokes is not his thang...

***Cranks, but does not start. I sprayed some starter fluid and vrooom for a second, then dies.

Here is the best photo sequence to see what's involved in carb cleaning.

Scroll down to the 4th through 7th photos, also the 9th and 10th. See the little brass pipe hanging alongside the inverted "tower" that holds the main jet? Therein lies the Pilot Circuit, and its outlet into the carb throat venturi was actually drilled by Honda-san using a calcified strand of spider web. Well, not really, but it's pretty small.

Few have seen evidence of this hole, None have photographed it. To see it, you must have a dark room, a bright flashlight and a good draw of Peyote smoke. Hold a finger over the main jet tower and shine the flashlight up into the pilot tube. Even then, it's a fleeting, mysterious little star in a dark sky. You almost have to look a little off to the side and align the beam with the rods, rather than the cones, of your good eye. If you see it, your carb is clean. If not, give it another bath.

Some say a guitar high "E" string fits through and serves as a resin-pusher to assist cleaning. If this scratches or enlarges the pilot hole, your carb may never work right again. I've always managed to get it clean with a 2-day soak in NAPA carb dunk.

For Float Valve issues, it has been my experience that an old float needle may not work, even if there's nothing outwardly wrong with it under the microscope. The price of a new one suggests it's made of gold-plated Platinum, but well worth it if your carb keeps overfilling. There's also the matter of the float needle seat, discussed Here.

I guarantee that once you empty your tank, and put in clean gas, your SPREE will fire right up after some priming. I fixed many mopeds that stopped working, after sitting for 6 months or longer, with just a couple dollars of fresh 87 octane.

wow, how much is gas over there? i can barely fit a dollars worth into that half gallon tank.

we are at 2.69 per gallon here in indiana

Honolulu, Hawaii has the highest gas prices and highest rent

$3.28/gal of 87 octane and I pay $2100 for a 1 bedroom condo 700 sq ft. (Not a luxury condo!!!) Those luxury 2 bedroom condos go for $5000/month rent. Single family houses average $600k for a older fixxer upper
