spree problem

Post by Stan371f »

Newbie here...Ive got a 86 Spree that ran fine until last year then died. It would start without the help of starting fluid but die soon after. I know its not good to use the starting fluid. So what I have done is put a new plug in, new carb that is clean and new filter. Also new fuel lines and filter. Seems to have same problem of not wanting to start without assistance. When it starts it runs for maybe 10-15 sec then dies. When I give it throttle, its like it wants to stumble and the dies. Any suggestions? Any help would be great! Thanks

Your carb isn't clean. Check your idle circuit. You can't see light through it.

i think the idle jet curves... im not sure but i thin it does. i had t clea mine and i just straightneded out a safety pin and stuck it through the hole where the throttle cable normally comes in and put it in the little hole then stuck sum needle nses through the air intake hole and pushed em down. and i had to use a lot of force but now i can see a reaaaaaal tiny dot of light through it.

Don't use a steel tool to clean the idle jet, you'll damage it.

too late now lol . o well im gone get a new carb soon neways being as ,my current one is jb welded together. i was also wondering , when my friend screwed the long mounting screw in the wrong side it kinda presed up against the choke area and i was wondering if that might have toasted it. ( i cant pull the little brass CYLINDER out , the cylinder around the pin is what im talking about).
