? what else could it be ?

Ok, the 86 spree has sat garaged for a while not running.
We have cleaned the carb, tank, new plugs, oil, new battery.
It ran but drove slowly, few days later we went back to work some more and it won't start. What should we try next? What else could it be?

you may have flooded the case and to test this, put the scoot on the centerstand, remove the carb from the intake, put your hand over the intake and start the engine, it should fire up at full speed so be ready to hit the kill switch, this will equalize the fuel/oil mix and isolate your engine problem which is either compression or the carb, could also be rotted vacuum lines.

i would guess that there is rust in the tank and clogging the float needle.

My guess: Plugged idle jet and missing or messed up airbox/filter.
