Buy the Polini primary gear set:

16:32 (2.000) (6.86 to 1)

...and that will take care of that. Daywot on eBay carries them.

I don't want to go on primary gears as it is very expensive. What secondary gears have the same ratio (6.8:1) ?

Greetings:

Choosing the least-expensive option isn't always the best "deal". Surely the Eye-Talian pride of craftsmanship is some assurance that the alloy from which the gears are forged is up to the task. The machine work is likely to be more precise, and the resulting parts will fit better, run smoother and last longer. That said, I've heard no complaints of failure of the Made in Asia gearsets, and have some in Flash's tranny case myself. You do have to monkey with the spacing and shim washers with some brands.

So, Polini or Taiwan? It depends on how you define "value" and your budget. Italians do give away cool free Stickers.

Woah, settle down there. Your written English is a little lacking, but now I see what you're asking.

If you were to buy the Polini primary drive setup all you would have to do is switch out the primary drive shaft, and larger gear cog on the countershaft. This should take all of 5 minutes once you have the transmission cover off.

For the 'cheaper' secondary gear set option you would switch out the smaller cog/spindle on the countershaft. The next step is a little more involved. Basically, you take the final drive shaft (the wheel attaches to this), and remove the larger cog attached to it. You then 'press on' the replacement cog from the aftermarket gear set. It is a little more labor intensive to get this done if you don't have the skills or equipment. Of course, outside labor costs $.

As-far-as quality, Polini has a long history of making fine parts. The Taiwan stuff is good if the quality control is there, but it's hard to really know.

So, please don't accuse me of being wrong, and act civil when seeking advice.

...and if you search eBay, I think Daywot has some taller gears (6.9:1)

I just posted a link to the 6.9:1 gears ($75). The teeth aren't listed, but you can ask Daywot.

He has a set of 8.2:1 secondary gears at $65. It's not the gear ratio you want, and even if it was you'd be saving a whole $10. Get the primary gear set and be done with it. So I've given you two options, one at $150 and the other at $75.

You could also try vtcycles.com.

Mike,
You've seen our gear table - http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... =5&t=10334

Lowest secondary set on that chart is the 18/39 --> 7.58:1 ratio.

Theoretically speaking - if someone made a set of secondary gears at 19/38 that would be in your ballpark at 6.92:1. It's just no one's posted the availability of such a set.
