I recently purchased an in-line fuel filter at O'Reillys the other day and am wondering how people get them to fit? It has the 1/4inch opening on both sides yet the tubing for the fuel is too small to fit over them.

You do not want a filter from an auto parts store. You want one from a lawn mower shop as it will be designed for a gravity feed fuel system, where the auto parts on is for a fuel pump and will restrict you fuel flow. The lawn mower shop will have sizes for you small hoses too.

5mm fuel line, and get a fast flowing one. for the fuel flow. a screen would be good. i forget what 5mm is in inches, the stores will be able to find one better using that size. look at a ruler, it's smaller than i think 3/16 it's on a post in here. it's in one post about fuel filter's and the sizes, i forget though

Apollo, O'Reilly's has a small stone filter for about 3 bucks that will fit the fuel line perfectly. As Bear mentioned, you want a free flowing filter. Insert the filter with the stone side facing the petcock so you can visually see the potential collected debris. The small stone filter will fit your needs very well. If they don't have it on the shelf, they can get one for you in a day or two. Well worth it and you'll see an immense difference in power versus the car filter. Duck

I've have a bought a small stone filter there before. Its the same as my snowmobile for the oil. Its clear in color.
