Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

The 48mm spree BBK kits will be ready to ship soon. My maker is sending pics and as soon as I get them I will do an early bird special like last time. The order will be here around the 15th of may. The kits will for 140$ at my store but the early bird will be 100$ for a 48mm spreeBBK for members only of hondaspree.net and only 10kits will be available. I will let you know when the special starts. Probally in about a week.

No good news on the variators. I have to pay to get a new one made with rollers for the spree. But I am going to do an expansion chamber muffler for the spree first. Then the vatiator.

I realize the variaor must be a huge challenge to make, my thought is just that the spree might not need a 48mm bore if the variator was developed first. * a stock spree might be able to hit 40 with just vari.

which means a variator and a 48mm kit on a pipe will be flat out nasty

just a thought, it'd be great to see an improved intake and reed cage design...

Since I am an Aero and Elite guy I have not paid much attention to the nifty Spree (saw one on CL last week for $200 but it was gone before I got through to the seller).

What keeps the Spree crank shaft from being variated? I only ask because I just met a guy this past weekend (boyfriend of one of my wife's friends) that is getting his Masters in Engineering working with CNC machines. So I wonder if it is possible to make the variator happen under the nose of the local engineering department at the University.

The crank shaft end is "smaller in diameter" then the variated engines.

Same length/depth? So a variator just needs the correct crank sleave to work on the spree?

I think it would need to be a tad longer as well

It's tapered so you won't find a sleeve.

Applauding the effort, but still wondering how this will work. The crank diameter isn't much of a problem and tapered bosses can be milled but the length of the crank protruding might be. Spree belt operates on only one plane, but variated engines have to leave room for several mm of Vario travel. The Variated 05s have more shaft sticking out, and the AF16s more still. Once you overcome that, the rear pulleys also need to match. Finally there is the matter of that slim-line belt cover, which may not provide enough room for the movable face and pulleys. Anything that can be imagined can be made, but at what cost?

I was just thinking about this Spree crank/variator incompatability thing.

First though, Is it possible that a crank from a variated engine would fit into a Spree case?

Second thought, since the Japanese are so fond of pressed together cranks, would it be possible to marry a Spree crank to the output end of a variated crank?

Well with my experience in the scooter business for the last 15 years is that a gear ratio and a 47mm and kit will do the job with stock variator,clutch, and belt. Just with gears and 48mm BBK the scooter should hit at least 46+mph easily. With a expansion champer pipe added the spree will just be a screamer.

The problem with a variator for the spree is the small amount of space on the crank. But I have already talked to my engineers and they say they can make one with no problem. But the cost is high. See you have to get it engineered and then a mold made and that is very costly indeed. Mufflers are next then the variator. I might make an intake manifold adapter before the variator. I have not decided.

The question is how much stress will the stock belt handle in higher RPM's. The gears and the 48mm kit will be fine but if you start to add more and more parts like a muffler and intake manifold will the belt be able to handle the stress? In my opinion a wider belt would remidy the problem, but we all know what that would include. And is it possible with the limited room? I have not asked my engineers but this a good question for the forum to keep your mind busy. hehe

SO how about an expansion pipe for the scoots with the 44 already on it?

that'd be cool too. lol although, 44's and 48's would be alot diff so making 2 diff pipes could be a pain in the butt!

Just a thought...would there be a way to make a new pressed outer drive cam? Design it like the outer rim on a dualie (same shaft length but allow for a wider belt)?
